Smith were awarded the prestigious refurbishment of Ashton (Old) Baths, comprising internal and external repairs to the building fabric, to the former swimming pool building into a state of the art business hub. The build is to include a free standing structure in the form of a pod, comprising of three stacked levels of contemporary office accommodation. Repair work includes brick/masonry elevations, window and external door repairs /replacement, roof and timber repairs, all intended to bring the buildings external facade back to its former glory. CONTRACT CHALLENGES Traditional This grade II listed building has been left derelict for over 40 years, the decay and damage will test the skills of H.H. Smith’s specialist trades men all who have undertaken many heritage projects previously. Flexibility and capacity to adapt to the build is vital on a project of such unknowns. The varied stakeholders, PlaceFirst, the Developer, Tameside Council, and the English regional Development Fund will all require a collaborative approach to ensure a successful outcome.
