High Caliber Stables
05.05.15
I have sat in on numerous meetings and conventions with
groups of people discussing how to share the American
Saddlebred. How do we grow our industry? How do we bring
people in? We live in a different world full of internet and cell
phones and dinner tables with people not talking to each other
but staring at their phone. We compete with sports and dance and lack of interest of the time
and effort it takes to come out and ride a horse.
The truth is you have to try. You have to be willing to do more than just sit in your barn and
hope people will come talk to you. You have to become a part of a community and people.
You have to share and take the time to educate. You have to know that for every group of
people you talk to maybe one person will walk into your barn for a lesson, BUT that one
lesson and person is the start of that family talking to another family which slowly but surely
will share what we do to many.
This weekend as Make-A-Wish invited hundreds of people to High Caliber Stables, we shared
our horses and our farm with a wonderful organization. A lot of time and effort was made to
prepare the farm and work with the event coordinators. We had horse demonstrations and a
High Caliber information table. Hopefully if someone that attended the event wants to ride,
they will give us a call. The best part of marketing our farm and what we do is that at the same
time we are doing some good. We are sharing what we love with others and to me that is a
win no matter how you look at it.
Make-A-Wish was not our only event this weekend. Meredith and Lauren headed to Ellie
Schmidt's house with Chuck for their Derby Party! They handed out lesson flyers and Chuck
was the star race horse for pictures for the party.
On Sunday after lessons, we hosted Birthday party. The family that had the Birthday party got
to know High Caliber Stables from last years Birthday Party. Meredith and Lauren said that
the party was a hit!
A weekend of wishes and parties. A weekend of great rides and good lessons. A barn that is
on a mission to break the rules and set the bar to give back and add to our industry. We want
to encourage people to do more and to ride and drive and fall in love with the horse and the
sport that we so love. I get told all the time, "You can't do it all, Mary Orr." They are right. With
the right team and the right vision though we can do a lot and do it well. We can use our land
and our horses to do more than just the norm. We can WELCOME new people to our industry
and educate them so we can sell more horses, breed more horses, and fill our shows with
new families that will learn to love this sport like I do.
We can do it. It is not easy and it takes time but it is possible and worth it.
Have a great week.

Birthday fun at HCS!
All of Meredith and Lauren's lessons will be taught this week.
Outside the Arena
High Caliber riders Courtney Kim, Sara Evans and
Peyton Youth all took part in Greensboro Day School's
Bengal Dash. Courtney Kim ran fast enough to take
second place in the 1 Mile Kids' Fun Run and Sara and
Peyton both ran the 5K.
Leah Hitney, a High Caliber Academy rider, recently
earned her Senior belt in Tae Kwon Do, only 3 belts away
from a black belt. Way to go, Leah!
Please let us know of what your rider has been up to "Outside of the Arena"!
Don't Forget!
Ribbons from JD Massey, ASAC, and Raleigh Spring Premier can be
found inside Lauren's office in the blue bin. If you have not already done
so, please pick them up the next time you are at the barn!
New Coke Machine
We now have a new Coke machine that has been fully stocked! We hope
you find something you like in it! Drinks are only 50 cents each and the
machine accepts both bills and change.
Don't forget, hot and cold Le Blue Water is always available to you from the
water cooler by the front bathroom. Remember to bring your water bottle!!
