Highline Bears Sign Four More College Stand Outs
The Highline Bears announced that this past week, they have signed an outfielder, catcher/DH, a corner
infielder and another pitcher for the upcoming 2015 Pacific International League season. The Bears
signed outfielder Myles Wesener, catcher and DH Ben Fitzhugh, third basemen Hayden Meire and right
handed pitcher Evan Harder.
Myles Wesener is a 6’ 0”, 195lb outfielder from Brisbane, Australia. Wesener attended Miles Community
College before transferring to the NCAA Division 2 Central Washington University. At Miles CC
Wesener had a .426 batting average his sophomore season and was named to the all-conference team.
Manager Todd Coughlin had this to say about Wesener; “He is an excellent athlete and has a tremendous
passion for the game. The fact that he is playing for the Bears instead of going home to Australia
indicates his commitment to developing his game to an even higher level. Myles has excellent speed and
a quick first step. That is a combination that results in excellent range in the outfield. He seems to
constantly be on base. He is the type of player that is always applying pressure to the defense. Great
contact, speed, and plate discipline our qualities that drive opposing defenses crazy. This is a really nice
young man that the community will embrace.”
Ben Fitzhugh is a 6'0", 215lb catcher and designated hitter. In his freshman year at Central Washington
University Fitzhugh played in 17 games with 14 starts. He posted a .341 batting average with 15 hits, 2
doubles, and 2 homeruns. Coughlin was very excited when talking about Fitzhugh, “Ben is a solid hitter.
He hits for average and power and is perfectly suited for our park. Ben is very popular with his team and
is evolving as a catcher defensively. I think he has a tremendous amount of upside. He is the type of
pitcher that helps your lineup. Pitchers can't make a mistake against him. His presence in the lineup
increases the quality of pitches our other hitters will see.”
Hayden Meire is a 5’11”, 225lb infielder who is currently playing for Columbia Basin College in Pasco,
Wa. Meire attended local Eastside Catholic high school where he put up great numbers playing in the
highly competitive 3A Metro league. “Hayden is an impressive ball player. He is a big strong guy who
hits for average and power and will occupy a prime spot in our lineup. I spent a few weekends in Pasco
looking at players and I really like what I saw. Hayden is an excellent corner infielder and is familiar with
our park from his high school play at Eastside Catholic. Hayden hit .376 in the NWAC last year with
wooden bats and against excellent pitching. He comes from a program at Columbia Basin that knows
how to develop players and we are excited to have him.” Said Coughlin
Evan Harder is another addition from Columbia Basin. The 6’0”, 185lb RHP who attended Bothell High
School, pitched 23 innings and had 35 strikeouts during his senior year. Coughlin said this about Harder;
“Evan is a solid addition to our staff. He works fast and is very focused. He loves the game and his team
feeds off of his enthusiasm. Evan throws hard and his velocity has continued to improve. He has the
ability to change speeds and dominate when he stays ahead of hitters. He is mentally tough. He can have
a bad inning and come out the next inning and totally dominate. He has unlimited potential and we are
thrilled to have him on board.”
