Recreation Information Piper Park Playground Piper Park playground has created a lot of happy memories over the last 20+ years for residents of Larkspur and beyond. However, over those same 20+ years, playground specifications and codes have changed and ongoing maintenance needs are becoming more frequent and expensive. We want to get your opinions and input in creating a brand new playground! Please look for announcements online and at the playground. We hope to have a survey page up on the City website very shortly. If you can provide a donation toward the purchase of various portions/amenities of the playground, or if you can provide larger financial donations, we would appreciate hearing from you. Naming rights are always a possibility. Mini Parks Action Plan We’re very happy to welcome our new Public Works / Engineering Director, Mary Grace Houlihan, to Larkspur. Mary Grace is very excited to be working with us on a Mini Parks Action Plan. In the near future, we’ll be meeting with several neighborhood groups, getting their input and working together to make our neighborhood parks even better. It’s going to take lots of shared “elbow grease” and financial contributions to make these local parks into their ideal configurations. Volunteer Opportunities In the spring, we’re going to be scheduling several beautification days in and around Piper Park. We NEED your help! If you as an individual, or if you know of a service group that is willing to help us make Larkspur even more beautiful, please keep your eyes peeled for service opportunities. We’re looking very much forward to working with you on these exciting projects! Very best regards, Dick Whitley Social Media Larkspur Recreation has both Facebook and Twitter! The Get Ready program is a two-hour household disaster training designed to instruct Larkspur residents on how to be self-sufficient for 5-7 days following moderate to large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, wildfires, floods, landslides and power outages. Themes of the program involve evacuation considerations, water and food supplies, as well as communication, sanitation, and your own personalized disaster plan. What are you waiting for? Visit www.getreadylarkspur.org for comprehensive information on the program, including class scheduling and even online training. • Get Ready to take care of your own family for a minimum of 72 hours. • Get Ready with food and water and medications for your entire family. • Get Ready with a phone call to an out-of-area family member or friend. • Get Ready with practice drills with your children. • Get Ready with supplies for your pets. AN D Get Ready with two-hour courses offered through the Disaster Preparedness Task Force — and you can even turn one of these courses into a dessert social or pot-luck in your own home. Just contact our program to secure a trainer, then invite your neighbors. In the event of a major disaster, professional services may be overwhelmed and unavailable for long periods of time. The widespread needs of the town will depend on voluntary assistance. With this in mind, the fire departments in Marin County have adopted a citizen training program called Community Emergency Response Training (CERT). CERT is designed to provide hands-on training to become self-sufficient for at least 72 hours following a disaster such as an earthquake, flood, or a wild land fire. We then encourage CERT trained volunteers to join their neighborhood teams to assist their community. Class 1: Introduction/Emergency Preparedness/Disaster First Aid Class 2: Search and Rescue Fire Prevention/Suppression CERT classes are offered every month except July and December throughout Marin County. For a training session near you, please contact Marin County CERT. Registration Info: 415-485-3409 www.marincountycert.org [email protected] It’s not difficult. The training is simple . The training is free. Supplies are available locally. sign up at www.getreadylarkspur.org or call (415) 927-6724. Get Ready Now !
