Blue skies greeted the riders on both Saturday fun day and Sunday Race day. The sponsored barbeque on Saturday night was a big hit with the same faces lining up for seconds!!? Michelle and Dave Gapes once again excelled with shopping skills, and with the help of Nellie McFarlane, Debbie Webb. Laura Reibel and Maureen, plus a couple of rough cooks (not you Bill Warren ), fed the starving! Unusually for Historics, delays were at a minimum with just a few bikes to be picked up, and no oil spills Get well soon Louise Ridgeway (broken scaphoid) and Peter McNickle (broken finger ), hope to see you soon up on the bikes again. It was nice to see a good turnout of Period 2’s again too. A good rollup stayed back for the presentations, with everyone commenting on the fun weekend. Congrats to all the winners.... Please help keep the scrutineering process running smoothly by getting everything sorted before race day. Random coolant checks will be made at HCMC meetings. Historic Road Racing:- Rule 14.16.2.5: The only liquid coolant permitted is water. No additives allowed. Road Race:- 13.17.1.10 The only liquid coolant permitted is water. RESULT OF VOTE ON HOLDING STATE TITLES THIS YEAR - Mick Tesser It is reported that after some discussion at last months general meeting about whether the club should or should not hold an official 2015 State Championship event, the vast majority of members attending voted against holding them mainly due to the large financial cost involved in hosting one. Pics courtesy - Brian Richardson REQUEST FOR INFORMATION - from Scott Matheson I have a few photos from road racing at Middleton Beach round the houses racing sometime in the mid-late 60's by the look of the bikes. Appreciate if you could insert one or more into the next Newsletter along with a request for further information. I am keen to find out if anyone can pin point when it was and any of the riders. Also - I would like to request that if anyone has similar photos from racing in WA that I would be keen to see them and hopefully create an archive of them. Best contacts for me are [email protected] or my mobile 0428 444 018. GUILDFORD HERITAGE FESTIVAL. 29th MARCH - Words and pics - Bob Humphreys An invitation from the organisers saw an impressive array of machinery on display. Topping the list was Geoff Holmes’s Vincent HRD, and also displaying their pride and joys were Bob O’Leary’s Australian short circuit Championship winning, Kerr framed Triumph dirt tracker (Boy we’ve got some history in our club!), Bill and Annie’s Period 3 sidecar, Norton Atlas, AJS, and speedtwin along with John Harpers Ducati and Aermachi, Nick Miller’s 750 Honda, my BSA, Benelli Six, and Sparta. A wonderful car display included Austin Healy’s, Rileys, Holdens and American cars, all polished within an inch of their lives. Food from around the World, music and the usual Bric a Brac stalls, hopefully we will get another invite as it was a most enjoyable day out for the whole family. (Editors note: Wish our old 1937 Velocette outfit hadn’t been smoking from a slight oil leak in the head somewhere so much, we made it as far as the Raffles Hotel but decided she was a bit too smoky. Every time we’d pull up at lights people would pull up next to us and say “is your bike on fire, there’s smoke coming off it”. Pretty hard not to bloody notice when you are sitting on top of it and the smoke is going up your nose! It was running fine, just a pain in the butt, but we decided we should probably turn around and go home just the same as a precaution. P.S. - Turned out to be a cracked rocker oil feed line weeping onto the head.)
