About IEHC 2015
INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH CONFERENCE 2015
The Health Inspector Union Sarawak Health Department are organising this event on 27th –
28th October, 2015. This timely conference is held at a particularly important juncture for health
development when many noteworthy achievements in health attained in the last century have
come under threat from the combined effects of the global food, fuel, economic and climate
change crisis. We want to address all the vital and critical issues and crisis and how to combat,
manage and prevent them. This conference will also lay a foundation for cooperation,
continuous improvements and a plan of action.
Theme:
”Threats to Health; Uncovering Latest Issues, Challenges and Prevention”
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
1. To create an awareness and health promoting environments
2. To understand the latest and emerging Environmental Health issues, challenges,
prevention, best practices and model
3. To address the societal and environmental factors that increase the likelihood of exposures
to the latest issues and emerging diseases and outbreaks
4. To address the current health threats issues, challenges and opportunities as a way of
moving forward in a challenging and changing world.
5. To find ways to protect our environment and promote good health
6. To create alliance for neighboring countries to curb, prevent and manage regional and
national health issues.
7. To disseminate evidence and learning to further advance knowledge and skills on
environmental health.
OUTCOMES
We want to make a historic gathering at Kuching, the headquarters for the IEHC 2015 event.
Government officials, NGOs, corporations, scientists, philosophers, lawyers, students and
environmental activists will reached an agreement on the necessity of the Kuching Declaration,
the Guardian for our Future Generation in the Environmental and Health decision-making. The
key element of the Kuching Declaration is that it will incites us to take anticipatory and
precautionary action in the need to preserve, safeguard and improve our ecosystem and our
environmental health uncertainty. It will be voluntary (though can be a law) with personal
commitment.
We believe that the existing environmental health regulations and other decisions, particularly
those based on risk assessment have failed to protect adequately our environment and human
health which is a part of the larger system of which human are a part of it. We also believe that
there is compelling evidence that damage the worldwide environment and human health which
is of such magnitude and seriousness that the welfare of our planet beings requires new
principles for conducting human activities.
What has happened yesterday and the last time will be history and lesson learned and through
the Kuching Declaration, we hope all participants will adopt a precautionary approach to all
human endeavors. The Kuching Declaration will convene all Environmental Health and related
practitioners from governmental bodies to public and private corporations around Europe,
Africa, Asia and Western Pacific region.
