Early Childhood Development

Opportunity
Two critical topics in early childhood development and
education are: 1) the increasing reliance on media for learning
and leisure activities, and 2) the vital role of parents in fostering
early learning from birth until kindergarten entry.
This Mountaintop Summer Project aims to utilize large national
datasets as a way to investigate these important questions about
early childhood development and education. Guided by faculty
and doctoral students from the College of Arts and Sciences and
College of Education, two undergraduate students will be
selected to assist in investigating these research questions by: 1)
conducting literature searches, 2) accessing and utilizing large
national datasets, and 3) assisting with data analysis.
We are looking for undergraduate students who:





Have strong interests or career plans in the area of early
childhood development and education
Have research experience and/or have taken a research
methods course
Are proficient in using Microsoft Excel and skilled in
conducting web and literature searches
Are eager to learn how to use large data sets
Are independent, hardworking, and motivated
Opportunities exist to coordinate this Mountaintop Summer
Project with relevant honors theses or other projects.

Requirements:
 Students will be required to
work for 10 weeks on
campus
