Activities List: Children’s Mental Health Week May 3rd – 9th, 2015 and Mental Health Week May 4th – 10th, 2015 Children’s Mental Health Week is coming up May 3rd - 9th and Mental Health Week is May 4th-10th. Each year, there are several activities during this week that we hope encourages people from all walks of life to learn, talk, reflect and engage about issues relating to mental health. Again this year, there are several activities taking place in our community designed to bring people together in positive ways, promote conversations and increase awareness and understanding in our communities about the importance of mental health for children, youth and adults. All Week Saturday, May 2 Monday, May 4 Wednesday, May 6 Thursday, May 7 “Let’s Chalk About It!” Steps to Wellness Walk Family Yoga This event is designed to get everyone engaged in positive messaging about the importance of mental health and well-being. We hope that kids and adults will create, write, and draw messages using sidewalk chalk in their outdoor spaces that promote positive messages about mental health. Area schools and community agencies, private businesses and community members will be participating. Please grab some sidewalk chalk and start creating! Join us at 2 p.m. for a walk along the Waterford Heritage Trail with some planned stops for brief meditations. Let nature nourish you….for just a little while. Please meet at Kerry’s St. James Eatery on St. James Street in Waterford at 2 p.m. Free coffee, tea, and a sweet treat provided by Kerry’s St. James Eatery. Colour Your Hair, Colour Your Mood! SafeTALK Training at H-N REACH in Townsend Annual FREE Family Swim Sponsored by H-N REACH at the Annaliese Carr Aquatic Centre in Simcoe from 6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. Kerry’s St. James Eatery Did you know that colour can influence your mood? Come to The Gay Blade Hair Salon and Day Spa on Main Street in Port Dover anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on May 4th and temporarily colour up to three strands of hair in any of a variety of colours for free. In Caledonia you can participate in this same event by visiting Patrick’s Haircare and Esthetics at 282 Argyle Street South in Caledonia anytime from noon until 6 p.m. on May 4th. Please drop in with your children and learn a few moves towards relaxation and wellness! SafeTALK is a 3-hour training session designed to have participants become more alert to the signs of suicide and assist getting people to suicide first aid resources.
