PANORAMA RESIDENT COUNCIL MINUTES
May 11, 2015
The meeting was called to order by President Sue Ballard. Council members present were: Maureen
Coulter, Glenis Nielsen, William Higday, Curt Rosler, Linda Crabtree, Carolyn Keck, Chuck Januska, David
Bartruff, Peggy Carmichael, Jean Garwood, Jeanne Thompson, David Hinz, George Bissell, Virginia
Berney, Libby Penney, Evelyn Greenberg, Arra Browning, President Sue Ballard, Vice-President Mike
Turner, Acting Secretary Anita Turcotte, Treasurer Frank Williams. There was a quorum for the meeting.
This meeting will be broadcast on Channel 370 Wednesday of this week at 10 AM, 2 PM, 7PM and on
Thursday and Friday at 10 PM.
Minutes: Chuck Januska moved to approve the minutes of the April 13, 2015 meeting as distributed.
The motion was seconded and approved.
PANORAMA CORPORATE REPORTS
President and CEO
 Joe DiSanto wished all a Belated Happy Mother’s Day, and then gave the marketing statistics for
the month of April. There were 4 applications, 11 reservations and 6 move-ins. For the fiscal
year to date there have been 94 applications, 63 reservations and 47 move-ins, and he noted
that these numbers are at an all-time high. Independent living is 93.3% occupied and the
Convalescent Center is at 89.3% occupancy. He reported that there are 130 resident referrals to
date this fiscal year. He further said that Panorama residents have volunteered a total of
49,040 hours this fiscal year, and extended his thanks to all who have done so. Mr. DiSanto then
relayed a message from Donna Kreuger of his office that residents would like the option of
receiving information via email, for convenience and reducing waste, things like newsletters,
neighborhood notices, and other communication with staff. If you would like this, notify Donna
at [email protected] to register your email and indicate if you want your email
added to the Resident Directory. It will never be published without your permission and will
only be used for internal communication.
Resident Member of the Corporate Board of Directors
 Jim Olson reported that the Corporation is continually working to upgrade the campus, and as it
has been 15 years since the Chambers House has had a facelift, restaurant renovations are
currently being considered. Architects and designers are being consulted, looking for ideas, as
the restaurant is such a focal point for the campus. This is only one of a lot of potential upgrades
to Panorama, in addition to the residences.
Panorama Foundation
 JoEllen Giles said that at their last advisory meeting, the Green Team indicated they would like
the Foundation’s help with the Pollinator’s Garden the Team is building as a pesticide free space
for bumblebees, butterflies, moths, mason bees, hummingbirds, etc. Specifically, they would
appreciate the Foundation purchasing plants. The Green Team also wants to participate in a
Citizens’ Science Project on bumblebees. Donations can be made to the Panorama Foundation
specifically for the Pollinator’s Garden. Libby Penney mentioned that the Green Team will be
maintaining the garden.

Aquatic and Fitness Center
 Melissa Thoemke reported on the very successful “Spring Fling Fashion Show” with Eddie Bauer
fashions modeled by Panorama residents and thanked all for their support. In addition to being
lots of fun, it raised $2,000 for Safe Place. Melissa then spoke on the necessity of repairs to the
swimming pools plus upgrades to the changing rooms, requiring that area of the Aquatic and
Fitness Center to be closed for approximately 8 to 10 weeks, beginning May 29. The fitness and
exercise rooms will remain open for the land and fitness classes. Melissa and Jean Jacobsen are
exploring the possibility of using area pools, outside of Panorama, during this closure.Melissa
then reminded us of the upcoming Summer Wellness Challenge scheduled for June, where the
goal is to “be more active than you are.” Participants will be provided a tee shirt, water bottle,
pedometer, and a card to track their activities, and all will be recognized at the Fourth of July
picnic. All this for only $7.50.
PANORAMA NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION REPORTS
 Benevolent Fund: Sue Dahlman said that the Benevolent Fund is in the process of so many
things, but she spoke mainly about the Patio Sale scheduled for July 17 and 18. Area managers
are busy recruiting their workers, and there will be two occasions for residents, who have not
yet been signed up, to volunteer: one on July 1st and one on July 9th in Pan Hall. Further, all
residents will receive an invitation to the Patio Sale, with notification about the shuttle bus for
Friday, special reservations for Resident Transit on Saturday, hours of operation, routing, etc.
Sue asked that residents respond to the survey that was included in the latest Fund Facts, and
deposit the completed survey in boxes provided in Pan Hall and the apartment buildings by May
15th. The Audit Committee provided a draft of their annual audit to the Board members at their
last meeting; if anyone wants to review it, a copy is available in the Benevolent Fund office.
REPORTS FROM RESIDENT COUNCIL SPONSORED GROUPS AND ACTIVITIES
 Arts Guild: Kathy Houston gave a detailed presentation on the upcoming Panorama Arts Walk
on Thursday, May 28th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Prospective residents are also being invited
to this event, which is being co-sponsored with the Marketing Dept. Participants include 39
visual artists, authors, musicians, actors, and others, with exhibits at multiple locations around
the main gathering areas of the campus, even including a Graffiti Wall sponsored by the wood
shop where you can add your own personal bit of art. A special luncheon buffet will be
provided in the restaurant at $5.00 for residents and free for prospective residents and guests,
and free ice cream will be available at the Auditorium Plaza from 12:30 to 2:00 PM.
REPORTS FROM OFFICERS, STANDING COMMITTEES AND DISTRICTS
 Treasurer’s Report: Frank Williams reported that the Resident Council income for April was
$582.15, expenses were $2,476.64 and the bank balance was $11,846.28. The activity fund
received $69.00 and paid out $341.26, for a balance of $5,550.74.
 Vice President: Mike Turner said he had no new items – nothing to report on.

District Reports:
o DISTRICT 1A: Maureen Coulter is planning a no-host June luncheon for her district as so
many new residents have moved into her area.
o DISTRICT1C: Bill Higday read a letter from Matt Murry explaining why the giant sequoia
at the corner of Woodland Loop and Circle Loop, in his district, needs to be removed,
something everyone hates to see happening. A District luncheon is planned for June 3rd.
o DISTRICT 3A: Chuck Januska still hasn’t received his 3 day advance notice of good 70
degree weather for their “Walk Down the Street” happy hour.
o DISTRICT 4C: David Hinz reported that the area at the Leisure Lane/Leisure Way
pedestrian gate has been repaired and black-topped. Also, additional lighting has been
added where Marina Lane and Leisure Lane intersect, which is a great improvement for
the safety of pedestrians. He also reported on his District’s luncheon on 4/28 with
Katherine Billings as featured speaker.
o DISTRICT 4B: Jeanne Thompson reported there are now only 5 vacancies on Marina
Lane. She is planning an August meeting for her District.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
 Resident Council Receptionist Policy Statement: Maureen Coulter moved that the name be
changed to Resident Council Receptionists Group, seconded by Jeanne Thompson and
approved by all.
NEW BUSINESS
 Nominating Committee: Mike Turner reported that the following have agreed to be nominated
at the next election: Sue Ballard as President, Linda Crabtree as Vice-President. If Linda
Crabtree is elected as Vice-President, then Mike Turner will become the District Representative
for District 2B.
COMMENTS
Comments from the President:
 Sue thanked all who worked at the Shredding Event sponsored by the Green Team and the
Resident Council, with assistance from the Benevolent Fund. She hopes this will be an annual
happening. Sue said she was told that day that Washington is #2 in the United States for
identity theft.
 Sue reminded everyone to fill out and return their Benevolent Fund/Patio Sale Survey.
 The next work session is scheduled for Monday, June 1st from 10AM to 1PM in the Garden
Room.
The next meeting of the Resident Council will be June 8, 2015.
