Term 2 Week 2
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome to the second week of Term 2!
What's happening this week…
Last Friday I was very privileged to witness a very moving Anzac
Day prayer assembly presented by Year 4, the last post always
sends a chill through me but, when the kids started to sing "and
the band played waltzing Matilda" let's just say, I got something
in my eye. A big thank you to all involved in bringing it all
together.

We invite you to be part of our
Holy Family Cookbook...
To commemorate Holy Family's 30th Anniversary we will be
creating a beautiful professionally printed full colour cookbook.
The cookbook will be a special momento for the
school and will be made up of recipes that are
special to the families in our community. It will
be a high quality publication that is comparable
to cookbooks found in book stores.
Is there something you make that is so scrumptious
that your family can't resist?
Do you have a family meal where the plates are
always scrapped (or licked!) clean?
Or it there a recipe that holds special memory for
you or a secret family recipe that you would like to
share?
Breakfasts, soups, starters, salads, mains, desserts,
sweet treats, snacks, condiments and more…
The recipes don't need to be complicated or fancy.
If you or your family enjoy it, we ask if you could
submit the recipe as there is no doubt that other
Holy Family families will love to try it too.
You can submit your recipe in 4 easy steps:
1. Go to http://www.createacookbook.com.au/
2. Click on ‘submit recipe’
3. Choose Holy Family Primary School from
the drop down list, then click on ‘Click to
access the recipe form’.
4. Then fill out the details of your recipe.
Please include your email address and phone
number so that we can contact you if there are
any questions about your recipe. We would love
for you to include a description of why the recipe
is special to your family.
A note on copyright:
Your recipe title should be unique. There is no
copyright over ingredients in a recipe, but there is
on the method. If you are submitting a favourite
recipe from another cookbook you must write the
method in your own words, describing how you
make the recipe. If you were inspired by a
published author, please quote a source.
Please submit your recipe by the 19th June
at http://www.createacookbook.com.au/
If you have any questions, or would like to be part of putting the
cookbook together please contact Michelle Williams c/- Joel in 4 Green
or by email at [email protected]

The power of a sincere
compliment

School Banking
is shooting for the stars.
It’s amazing the impact a sincere
compliment can have on the
confidence and self-esteem of a
child or young person.
At the beginning of 2015, the School Banking program launched students on a mission to save
by making regular deposits into their Youthsaver account. In just one term, over 958,000
School Banking deposits were made around Australia. It’s a fantastic result that’s seen thousands
of Australian children begin their savings mission.
Rewarding good savings behaviour with two new items
To help keep students on track with their savings mission in Term 2, we’ve released two
new awesome reward items from our Outer Space Savers range. Students just need to make
10 School Banking deposits to be able to redeem a reward item.
Invisible Ink Martian Pen
I overheard a friend tell her eightyear-old daughter last week: “You
did such a good job helping your
brother yesterday. You are such
lovely big sister!”
Intergalactic Rocket
You could win a 5 nights’ family trip to California’s Disneyland
Don’t forget, students who consistently display stellar savings behaviour by making 25 or more
School Banking deposits in 2015 will automatically go into the draw at the end of the year to win
a family trip to California’s Disneyland.
My friend’s face lit up with a smile
as she said it. She gently put her
hand on her daughter’s shoulder at
the same time. The little girl
beamed, then she went off to play.
It was a simple parenting moment
among many that my friend would
have initiated that day.

doesn’t take much to grow kids’
self esteem and create good

impact on the person who receives it. We all grow a little taller, at least inside, when we are given a
compliment.
We also feel closer to the person who complimented us. Compliments
satisfy the deep craving we all have to be appreciated. There is one
problem. While compliments are easy to give, they are also easy not
to give. We forget. We underestimate their impact. We haven’t
developed the habit of giving compliments.
Amplify the impact
There were two things my friend did that amplified the impact of her
compliment.
1. She smiled as she gave the compliment.
2. She touched her daughter as well.
Touch will always amplify a compliment. It makes it personal. Her
mother’s smile told her daughter what her mum really felt. In fact, the
touch and smile said it all. The words reinforced the smile and touch.
The compliment was given and received through three senses –
visually, kinaesthetically and auditorily.
Tip of the week
Add Pages to Your Facebook
"Interest Lists" Instead of
Liking Them
From any Page that you would
normally decide to “Like”, you
can instead click on the little gear
tab next to the "Message" button
and "Add to Interests Lists."
The lists are private, your friends
don’t see all the pages that you
have “Liked” on their News Feed
and also reduces the size of your
News Feed. Win, win!

That’s how kids receive all our messages – they see, they feel, they
hear – though we often focus on the words and forget the visual and
kinaesthetic.

Next time your child does something worthwhile take the time to give
a compliment. Smile (tell your face you are happy) and add a little touch to really let them know how you
feel. Watch your child’s reaction. It’ll have a significant impact. It doesn’t take much.

Holy Family Netball 2015
Caramellos Year 2
The Caramello’s had a tough game this weekend, and the damp weather didn't help. Despite this, the girls
did a great job, and are really starting to get the hang of netball. Olivia and Layla both played strong games
in defence with Chloe and Aislinn playing a strong attacking game. Anna and Indy did great work on the
rebounds in the goal circle.
Jaffas Year 6
A great effort by everyone today, with excellent teamwork and fantastic defence across the court and in the
goal circle. Our skilled offence and defence, strong centre court play and giving 110% throughout the game
made for a very exciting game. Well done to everyone - looking forward to next week's game. A big thank
you to our super-subs Lucy and Sophie for helping us out this week. Go Jaffas!
