The Men's Chorus from Saint Ignatius High School,
under the direction of our own Jason Falkofsky, will
join the Holy Martyrs Choir in singing at the 9:30am

Please notify the church office in advance of a surgery or
scheduled hospital stay so that you may receive the Sacrament of Anointing. The Church has always prayed for the
sick to be freed from pain and restored to health. This sacrament originated in the healing ministry of Jesus. An
anointing may be scheduled before or after a Mass or during the week.

networking group meets twice a month at the following locations:

If you’ve been thinking about becoming Catholic, we invite you to look more deeply into what makes Catholics
“tick” by participating in the Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults (RCIA) at Holy Martyrs. RCIA is a process that facilitates and deepens adult conversion to Christ by providing a
way for people to come together to learn more about God in
their lives and about the Catholic Church.
RCIA is for


those who are unbaptized, or
those who have been baptized but were not formed in
the Christian faith
These sessions provide a pressure-free, non-judgmental
environment to explore what it means to live a spiritual life
— and to catch a glimpse of what that spiritual life looks
like within the Catholic Church.
Sessions are initially held on Tuesdays at 7:15 p.m. and
individuals are welcome to start attending at any time during the year. After a period of time, those sessions will
move to Sunday mornings. Some of the sessions even entail
going to other sites throughout the Greater Cleveland area
to explore the richness of our religious heritage.

food sale items that can be donated to those in need.
Though food collection weekends are the third weekend of
each month, food donations are accepted at anytime. Certain staples are always needed, like pasta and spaghetti
sauce, cereal, tuna, peanut butter, soups, can vegetables.
Checks made out to Holy Martyrs with Ministry of Assistance (MOA) on the memo line are always welcome and very
much appreciated. Thank you for helping those in need.

resolution in support of Issue 10, the .8 Mill Levy for Medina County Human and Social Services, on the May 5, 2015
ballot. Citing US Catholic Bishops statements on the common good and protecting the vulnerable among us, the
Catholic Commission understands this funding as vital to
directly supporting needed local services to Medina County’s vulnerable children, foster care/adoptive programs, older adults, and residents relying on local mental health and
substance abuse programs. The WAM Catholic Commission
encourages your prayerful consideration on Issue 10, the
first tax increase on Medina County citizens since 1971. For

Eucharist Source and Summit of Our Faith
God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
—-Corinthians 1:9
We, as parents, have the opportunity to show our children that attending Mass is a way to have a faith filled
relationship with God. It is a time when families can share the wonders of their Catholic Faith.
“When we go to Mass, it is vitally important to understand what is happening. If we do not understand the Mass it will become an unnecessary relic of the past, or an interesting diversion.”1
Jesus’ saving action – His pouring out His Life to the Father—is the heart of the Mass. His body, blood, soul and divinity are
made present in the Eucharist.”
The Mass is an action. Jesus pours himself out. The priest, who speaks the words of Consecration, pours himself out with
Jesus. He does not merely say the words; he himself becomes the sacrificial offering with Jesus.
When we were baptized, we too, were baptized into the priesthood of Christ. By our baptism, all Christians are called to offer
the sacrifice and to be the sacrifice with Jesus.
As the priest prays the Eucharistic Prayer, the entire community unites in prayer with him. We exercise our priesthood by
offering up the Son to the Father with the priest. We pour ourselves out with the priest and with the son to the Father.
What a wondrous gift we can give our children every week and at daily Mass, by sharing our time in God’s House.

The winter session of FOCUS is in progress. FOCUS is
our new process for adult Christians who were immersed in the faith earlier in life but are seeking full
communion with the Roman Catholic Church now.
FOCUS is designed for adults who are strong Christians but have questions about the differences between
what Catholics believe and what their own faith traditions taught. If you are interested in participating, we

Second Sunday of Easter - DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
On the Second Sunday of Easter in 2001, Pope John Paul II proclaimed this the Feast of Divine Mercy
for the entire church. Special devotion to Christ under the title of the Divine Mercy is most fitting in
conjunction with this feast. It is also a most fitting time to encourage everyone to practice works of
charity and mercy as often as they can.
This feast grew out of the life and devotion of St. Faustina Kowalska, who died of tuberculosis in
1938 at age 33, and whom Pope John Paul II canonized in 2000. In her writings, St. Faustina reflected on the mercy poured out in Christ’s death and resurrection, and through the Holy Spirit who forgives sins and restores joy at having been redeemed.
The liturgies of Divine Mercy Sunday, and particularly the scripture readings for the Second Sunday
of Easter, are a fitting way in which to express our acceptance of the Redeemer’s mercy. They narrate the first encounters with the risen Christ and his gift of forgiveness to the Church. After his
resurrection, Jesus took much care to show his apostles the wounds of his passion, particularly the
wound in his heart, the source from which flows the mercy poured out on humanity.
The devotions of St. Faustina find their root, “in the paschal Christ, the definitive incarnation of mercy, His living sign which reflects both His saving act in history and the final salvation Christ has won for us all.” In the words
of the psalm from the liturgy of Easter, “I shall sing forever of the Lord’s mercy.” (Psalm 89:2)
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy consists of praying the rosary for nine days, with these prayers added:
At the beginning of each decade, pray:
Eternal Father,
I offer You the body and blood, soul and divinity
of Your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
Before each Hail Mary, say:
For the sake of His sorrowful passion,
Have mercy on us and on the whole world.
At the end of the rosary, conclude by praying three times:
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy on us and on the whole world.
