CHAPTER-6 ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING PROGRAMME 6.0 GENERAL It is increasingly being recognized that an Environment Management Plan must have a monitoring programme without which the purpose of having the EMP would not be fulfilled to the expected extent. 6.1 THE PROGRAMME From the monitoring point of view, the important parameters are water quality, soils, land use, afforestation, etc. An attempt is made to establish early warning of indicators of stress on the environment. Suggested monitoring parameters and programs found suitable for construction phase are summarized in Table-6.1 and those of operation phase in Table-6.2, respectively. Total cost for the Environment Monitoring Programme is estimated at Rs 1.15 millions.
