FROM THE PRINICPAL—Mr David Finnerty
End of Term one!
Already, the end of term is upon us and we now need to reflect on the term that has gone and the
remainder of the year that lies before us.
It is tempting to see the break from the College as a time to forget about school and our studies and just
plan for a good time to be had by all. However, to do so, will certainly not deliver on the goals and
aspirations we set ourselves to achieve over the year. It is important that we take the time to rest and
recover in preparation for the long Term 2 that lies ahead of us, but at the same time, we must revise
work that we have completed, consolidate the knowledge that we have acquired and revisit our goals to
ensure they will still deliver the outcomes we desire for ourselves at the end of the year and beyond.
For our Year 12 students and Senior VCAL students, there is barely 117 days of schooling remaining for
the year. That is 117 days that potentially will determine the career and life path that awaits you after
you complete your formal education. The time away for Year 12 students, therefore, is not time for a
holiday at all, but a time for study, study and more study.
While I wish all a safe and restful time away from the College and look forward to seeing you back for
the start of Term 2, my silent wish is that the time will be used constructively in ensuring that next term
can be even more successful for you than this term.

STAFF VS STUDENTS
Hi everyone,
Below is the wrap from Staff v Student Volleyball which was held in the Old Gym.
The match got underway in the fantastic confines of the old gym around 1:15pm today with a big support base on hand.
The students were jovial and confident on evening up the score while in the meantime staff were wondering who was
going to take the court.
The students started things off by serving first and after a fairly even start with scores never more than two the difference
the staff started to get into the groove thanks to Knowles, Mahon (use two hands) and Marks, before the midpoint
departure of key staff who were lost to yard duty. However, never mind as we welcomed Davies and Murdoch to the
court who were ably assisted by the all-round efforts of O’Connor, Jessop, Davies (Super Sub) and Tucker (welcome to
staff v students). The staff managed to pull away considerably as the students began to weep under the pressure of being
within striking distance of the staff.
After establishing a fairly comfortable lead and time nearing its end it was decided to keep the game going until they lost
a serve. This could have been costly with the students winning the next 10 points but never mind due to the lead the staff
had established. With Billy “The Spike King” Jessop strong around the net, Barb “The Dynamo” Davies lively in the
backcourt, Darryn “The Smiling Assassin” O’Connor the all-rounder, Cassandra “The Newbie” Tucker moving all over
the court the staff won.
Thanks to O’Connor, Jessop, Murdoch, Marks, Beamish, Peart, Davies, Tucker and Mahon for their participation.
A big thankyou to Cam Christiansen for umpiring as well

NEWS AROUND THE GROUNDS
New Seating at H.P.S.C
By Christina D’Sylva
Technology Domain Leader
Thanks to the efforts of the Design and Technology students, the VCAL students and some dedicated teaching staff,
there have been several new seats designed, produced and installed by students at H.P.S.C.
These benches are located in between T-Block and S-Block and have been a welcome addition to the school grounds.
These benches have been built to last and are made from recycled wood. The students have been learning about
sustainable building practices and have put their study of Design and Technology to good use by making these
benches so that future students will benefit for many years to come. A special thank you goes to Mr. Max Stephan
who teaches Design and Technology and got this project underway.
