AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE CADETS 3 WING HEADQUARTERS Aircraft Recognition Competition Rules 2015 General 1. Each Squadron may field one team. 2. Each team is to consist of four members, all from the same Squadron. Team members must be cadets, but may be of any rank and any stage of training. 3. Each member of the team will be individually assessed and scored; the maximum score for an individual is 25 points. The four individual scores for the team will then be added to give a total score out of 100. 4. In the event of a tie for first place, the tied teams will sit a tiebreaker test. If there is still a tie after the tiebreaker, then the tied teams will be declared joint winners. Test Format 5. The test will consist of a slide show with 25 pictures. 6. Questions will be taken from the ARB, ARP and ARA syllabuses, and current/future ADF aircraft, and will consist of the following makeup: a. 10 questions relating to current and future ADF aircraft; b. 10 questions relating to other aircraft found in the syllabuses; and c. Five questions relating to aircraft national markings. 7. To obtain a full mark for the aircraft identification questions, the contestant will need to name the: a. Aircraft manufacturer. Can be written in full or abbreviated. b. Model designation/name. The US MDS (eg F-111, B-52 etc) if applicable and/or name (eg Hornet, Hawk, Wedgetail etc); and c. Variant number/letter. If this can be determined by the photo – eg F/A-18F or Hawk 127. 8. Half-marks will be awarded for partially correct answers. Ie to obtain a full mark for the Australian Hawk, the answer must be ‘BAe Hawk 127’; a half-mark would be awarded for ‘BAe Hawk’, or ‘Hawk 127’. 9. To obtain a mark in the national markings questions, the contestant will need to name the country of origin. 10. Marks will not be deducted for incorrect answers. 11. Each question will be shown on the screen for 30 seconds. Each question will only be shown once. 12. Teams are to present to the competition area NLT 10 minutes prior to their designated start time. Teams who have not arrived by their designated start time will forfeit their right to participate in the competition.
