Job Description Title: Nurse Campus: Terekeka, South Sudan Area: Harvesters Orphanage & School Supervisor: Director of Operations, Terekeka Status: Missionary Role Purpose The position of the nurse should be someone who feels called to serve the people of South Sudan in a caregiving role. The position requires levels of knowledge to ensure good healthcare of the children on campus, the school children, and the staff as well as their families. The person in this position is also held to a high standard of personal conduct as they possess considerable influence over staff and the children the campus serves. In collaboration with the Terekeka Campus Directors and a local nurse, this person would see that the vision of Harvesters is fulfilled through the daily running of the clinic, teaching health care to staff and students, and administrating the organization of health in formation. This position is a key member of the Terekeka leadership team. Work Duties 1) General duties and responsibilities: a) Assessment, Diagnosing and Treatment i) Perform daily and evening rounds in dormitory ii) Diagnose malaria, typhoid, Strep pharyngitis, HIV with rapid strip tests, and other tropical diseases iii) Treat sick patients by administering appropriate medication and assessing as needed iv) Check weekly weights on infants and instruct housemother on changes in infant’s diet v) Take critically ill patients to closest trusted medical facility b) Documentation i) Update pertinent information in individual orphan medical charts ii) Update vaccine spreadsheets iii) Create a medical file for orphans new to Harvesters iv) Maintain system of filing all health / clinic related items c) Education i) Educate housemothers on care of children, health education and first aid ii) Educate students on health education and basic first aid iii) Educate patients on how to appropriately administer or take medications d) Vaccinations i) Administer required vaccines to children according to schedule posted in clinic ii) Document vaccine information on spreadsheets and send information to stateside medical advisors. iii) Inventory and ensure vaccines in refrigerator are at appropriate temperature e) Medication/Diagnostic Equipment i) Inventory and purchase all necessary medication and lab equipment 2) Additional Areas of Participation a) Evangelism outreach to the surrounding bush villages b) Leading extra-curricular activities on the weekends for the compound children c) Teaching Sunday School classes.
