HS Newsletter May 6_ 2015

May 6, 2015
Dear Parent/Guardian,
MAY? Yes, it is difficult to believe that we are in the first week of May. Students have been taking STAAR
EOC’s and AP tests all week, and we appreciate all their efforts on these exams. With these exams out of the way,
students will want to be finished with school, but unfortunately we do not have that option. Focus on academics and
preparing for final exams is still a very important part of the school year. These last few weeks will be intense, and we
ask for your help in encouraging students to be in in school EACH DAY. We definitely want to end the year on a
positive note…so these last few weeks please be in school, work hard, and then we can enjoy a relaxing summer.
THANK A TEACHER! The first week in May traditionally signifies Teacher Appreciation Week across the
state of Texas and the nation. Teaching anywhere between 20 and 35 high school students for 90 minutes three to
four times a day is no easy task. Teachers spend a lot of time each day and evening preparing lessons, grading
papers and tutoring, while maintaining any and all clubs and activities in which they may be involved. THANK YOU
TEACHERS! WE APPRECIATE YOU AND WHAT YOU DO FOR THE STUDENTS OF WIMBERLEY ISD!!
Go Texans!

Texan Baseball in the Playoffs
Congrats to the Texan Baseball Team for making the playoffs. Good luck guys!
Attendance
The spring semester is a very busy time of the year. Couple that with warming temperatures, and we normally see a
drop in the number of students who consistently attend school. WHS would like to encourage students to be at school
on time every day. I would certainly not encourage a sick, contagious student to come to school, but I am encouraging
all students to take precautions to prevent illness by washing their hands frequently, eating right, getting plenty of rest,
and drinking lots of water. Our best opportunity to educate students is when they are at school, healthy, and ready to
learn. Please make every effort to be in school. There is plenty of research that supports academic success as related
to consistent attendance.
Tutorials are available from:
Monday – Friday: 7:40 – 8:30am and 3:40 – 4:00pm
