Message From the Mayor
As you’re very much aware, this has been an extremely dry winter. In the past year, Hyde Park City
implemented a strategy to try to encourage high water users to decrease water usage. Since that
time, we’ve had what Randy Julander (hydrologist from the Natural Resources Conservation Service) has said is the 3rd worst Utah water year on record, behind 1932 and 1977. In fact, our city
spring that comes out of Birch Canyon is running at levels that should alarm all of us citizens. The
flow that comes out of the canyon is what we would normally see in late July or August. For those
that are on canal secondary water, know that there will be very little if any for yard water usage
when the heat of the summer is in full swing this coming July and August. In the late summer
months, green grass will not have a water priority. It will be dry, but not to worry, grass will go
dormant and return green and lush the next year.
What can we all do? I would challenge everyone to decrease their water usage by 25%. There are
numerous ways to save water. The web site http://wateruseitwisely.com/100-ways-to-conserve/
lists simple ways we can all conserve water. Don’t plant a garden that will require extensive water
in July, August and September (melons, corn etc.). Plant now, things such as peas, beans, lettuces
and such.
Hyde Park City is going to join this challenge. Our parks and City landscapes will be dryer, soccer
fields and baseball fields with be turning brown as well. We all have to do this together. I will be
working with the City Council to develop our extensive and severe drought water conservation
plan. We’ll work with the canal companies to make the best of dry times. You will be seeing and
hearing more from the City on water conservation in the coming weeks.

THE HYDE PARKER
Youth Council
A special thank you to all our senior citizens that came to our Spring Fling. We had so much fun! We are amazed at all
your shenanigans as you made your own fun! We are still laughing over some of those. We were impressed with the good
clean fun and life experiences that were shared. Thank you again for taking your time to come and share the evening
with us!
Youth Council Applications
A shout out to all current 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade youth. We want you to apply for the youth council!
Applications are available online at hydepark.utahlinks.org/ . They are under "other documents." You can also pick
up an application at the City office. Applications are due on May 4th, 4:30 pm, at the city office. The Youth Council is a
service organization with one meeting and one activity per month from July 2015 - April 2016. It is an excellent way to
serve your community, gain organizational and leadership skills, make friends while working together and having fun
too! (It also looks good on scholarship and college applications.) Interviews for applicants will be scheduled in May.
The 25th Street Market
The Market will be located at the North Logan Library this
summer on Saturdays from June 6 through October 17, at 9:00am.
We've had great vendor and entertainer response. We'll
have informative presenters and kids will love Maker Corps where they
can do hands on, math and science-based activities that make learning
fun!
We are still seeking:
 Starter gardening plants
 Junior Entrepreneurs - Booths are on $1/week for those under 18
years of age
 We still have a few openings for gardeners, quality crafters, and
performers
Declaration - Day of Prayer in Utah
Whereas, prayer is a fundamental part of the national heritage, with
the first National Day of Prayer proclaimed by the Continental
Congress in 1775;
Whereas, in 1783, the conclusion of the Revolutionary War marked
a temporary end to the National Day of Prayer;
Whereas, reinstated as an annual observance by members of Congress in 1952, the National Day of Prayer has become a unifying
force for American citizens representing diverse religious backgrounds; and
Whereas, this nation has traditionally sought divine guidance as it
charted what has become the path of American history;
Now Therefore, I, Bryan L.Cox, Mayor of Hyde Park City, Utah support Gary R, Herbert, governor of the State of Utah, in his Declaration of May 7, 2015 as a Day of Prayer in Utah

Message From Chief Hawkes
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement
officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
At the State Capital in Salt Lake City on the west side of the grounds you will find the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial. On its wall are the
names of 137 Utah Law Enforcement Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, the first being Deputy Rodney Badger in 1853.
During the week of May 10th through May 16th you will notice 137 U.S. Flags lining the entryway to the North Park Police Department, 575 E 2500
N in North Logan. Each Flag is a memorial to the officers of this state who have given their all for us. I would encourage you to visit the memorial
on Capitol Hill the next time you are visiting Salt Lake City with your family. The Members of the North Park Police Department are proud to
serve you and dedicate ourselves to our moto of Respect, Integrity, Courage and Honor. Chief Hawkes
