 HYPERPANEL CORPORATE PROFILE S1-‐2015 ABSTRACT
HyperPanel has ultimately developed, and entirely copyrighted, a whole new highly disruptive Operating System (OS) that enables Internet of Things (IoT) to become increasingly smarter, agile and secure, while drastically lowering hardware cost and power consumption. As anytime soon tens of billions of digital IoTs will drive every Industry into another game-‐
changing revolution -‐ then beside being extremely lightweight -‐ HyperPanel’s embedded OS architecture brings stunning cost advantages and edgier performances compared to any other mainstream kernel, including Linux or any of other Unix derivatives. Being specifically designed to add and share seamless and scalable connectivity and intelligence locally at the edge, HyperPanel’s OS overcomes cloud-‐centric only approaches to thereafter address the critical bandwidth issues, as well as the time and privacy-‐sensitive growing concerns. Equally important to empowering edgier IoTs, properly managing them in both consumer and enterprise contexts is an absolutely paramount step moving forward. That is the reason why HyperPanel has first licensed its whole OS and software Technology to run a break-‐through consumer domestic multipurpose Hub, so called Media Home Gateway (MHG), which is now industrialized by tier-‐one manufacturers. These MHG Hubs are duly capable of both streaming any and all TV signals and recordings to multiple home screens, smartphones and tablets, while also monitoring simultaneously on popular TV sets numerous Smart Home IoT devices. Sidewise, an internally developed Back-‐Office Cloud platform tailored for Service Operators has been developed to remotely manage MHGs and Smart Home IoTs. Moreover, aiming at an enterprise wider momentum, the HyperPanel Back-‐Office is now successfully in use since 2014 to control 24,000 IoTs and sensors in a 300,000-‐sqft energy positive office building nearby Paris. This achievement illustrates a very compelling way to tackle this booming Industry where IoT driven energy efficiency management is going to be vital in the decade to come. 1.0 -‐ IOT-‐DRIVEN STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENT CALLING FOR A NEW OS Moving towards the IoT paradigm, connectivity and intelligence are being added to various physical objects that have traditionally been both unconnected and unintelligent. Alongside these lines, while many IoT devices are for now relatively unsophisticated sensors capturing data and delivering them with very little processing to a smartphone and the cloud -‐ where the system’s intelligence resides -‐ the next wave of edgier IoTs will be fostering the shift from simply connected to intelligent; hence enabling devices to interact autonomously with their environment. 1 Such distributed and scalable ecosystem will require a break-‐through OS tailored for mainframe patterns and grids rather than a generic, even light-‐weighted, PC originated centric solution. These latest cannot cope with multiple user engagement in a real-‐time manner without involving high processing and storage capabilities at each device level itself (like voracious PC or smartphones are). In principle, none of the traditional mainstream OS (especially Linux-‐based ones) are fundamentally architected for coping with such new intricate challenges where machines have to locally rely on advanced environmental sensing and a certain level of contextual awareness to perform their tasks effectively and safely. In principle, none of the popular mainstream OS are fundamentally architected for coping with such new intricate challenges where machines could locally rely on advanced environmental sensing and a certain level of contextual awareness to perform their tasks effectively and safely. Furthermore, today’s general purpose PC based OS require additional hardware and application layers to cope with security, integrity and robustness issues. For sure, the IoT next paradigm will need to rely on truly self-‐secured OS, like HyperPanel’s, capable of bringing to any machine, in any context, even intricate ones, similar security patterns than the ones usually limited to the payment or military ecosystems. Hence, there is a fundamental need for an OS enabling these things to interact safely and securely with their dynamic surroundings at ultra-‐low latency, even offline. In a B2B context, this implies being able to distribute intelligence to the device or across a large fleet of robot nodes. In a domestic consumer context, numerous appliances and personal IoTs will then rely on a local Hub handling some sort of Micro-‐Cloud where Smart Home, TV and Telecom will be handle in a seamless manner. This is precisely what HyperPanel’s OS and its disrupting implementations aim at solving. 1.1 -‐ INTERNET OF THINGS ARE A MAJOR INDUSTRY TIPPING-‐POINT With IoTs, every single Industry will turn Digital. As many more Things will soon be connected to the Net than Humans, that will open up a wide scope of new opportunities for homes, enterprises and governmental businesses. Until now, Internet related use cases were very much individual driven. That means PC, and next Smartphones and Tablets, have basically been the single point of interaction and connectivity to the Net, and thereafter with the Cloud. Now that Things invade our day-‐to-‐
day lives, IoTs will create another cluster of self-‐driven activities at the edge that shall pave the way towards a new Revolution, as our surroundings and things will be interacting with our personals, homes, cars, corporations and cities. Then, while inventing and creating a break-‐through lightweight OS capable of propelling ever smaller and greener IoT devices, HyperPanel has developed best-‐of-‐breed multipurpose Home Gateways as well as highly scalable Back-‐Office Cloud technologies, such head-‐end platforms enabling stakeholders to better capture the value of the Big Data paradigm. 2 1.2 -‐ THE PARADIGM SHIFT: FROM CONNECTED TO INTELLIGENT IoTs have certain characteristics that make them challenging to deploy and manage. More often than not, they use restrictively compact form factors and need to operate unplugged in difficult locations. So getting them efficiently connected and powered is not an easy feat. Here are typically three areas where the Industry can take advantage of the HyperPanel OS software technology to leverage the edgier shift: !
!
!
Communication Latency -‐ Handling more processing locally at the edge reduces latency from the devices’ actions, while cloud-‐centric scenarios have to cope with data sent over long distances. Reduced data footprint -‐ The ability to handle data closer to the source reduces the associated bandwidth and backend-‐storage requirements. Smarter devices and local Hubs enable “triage” of the data at the source in order to determine which readings should be sent out for further big data analysis. Better power management -‐ Beside cutting down the volumes of transmitted data, the optimization of transmission intervals represents even more valuable benefits in the form of reduced power footprint. Since processing data is less consuming on the battery than sending data, IoT-‐driven organizations can make their device networks more power-‐efficient by adopting edge intelligence whenever possible. Ultimately, such global IoT era will rely on multiple small inter-‐networked cloud clusters and thin clients. These could be local (city-‐level), or even hyper-‐local (neighborhood, or home level), depending on where and when the data do ultimately need to be processed. This is precisely where HyperPanel’s tailored OS first steps in when offering multipurpose MHGs handling smart home IoTs, as well as beyond, a Cloud based Back-‐Office to scale up in the value chain with the relevant and essential Big Data tools. 2.0 -‐ COMPANY’S KNOW-‐HOW & PRODUCT OFFERING – OS DESIGN WIN Over two decades of sustained R&D, HyperPanel has built from scratch a truly game-‐
changing embedded OS whose 100% of the source code is in-‐house copyrighted. On top of being extremely lightweight, this OS offers a unique set of features to tackle the global IoT ecosystem that none of the legacy mainstream architectures will ever be in a position to address: it is real-‐time, scalable, determinist, spreadable among several devices, capable of dealing with different timing constraints, and last but not least, agnostic to the input and output, as well as to the media and telecom networks to handle. To demonstrate its OS superior capabilities, HyperPanel has first tactically implemented its OS: (i)
In Consumer homes – where HyperPanel’s multiscreen TV scalable solutions perfectly leverage the seamless handling of the numerous IoTs strengthening the Smart Home; 3 (ii)
And in large-‐scale buildings – where, as a technology compelling proof, an HyperPanel Back-‐
Office monitors tens of thousands of IoTs enabling energy efficiency critical management. 2.1 -‐ HOME COMSUMER PRODUCT – THE MEDIA HOME GATEWAY In a Smart Home context, IoT will not be just personal, and therefore attached to a Smartphone only. They will need some kind of domestic fixed Hub to work even when people are away, or when the telecom falls down. In other words, such a Smart Home Hub will need to create some kind of offline Micro-‐Cloud dealing seamlessly with whatever Media, Telecom and IoT patterns people will be mixing and scaling. Leveraging its long lasting Digital TV experience and legitimacy, HyperPanel has developed on top of its OS a complete software suite tailored to enable CE manufacturers to build rather advanced Media Home Gateway (MHG). While being truly low cost because requiring basic hardware components only, these modern MHGs propelled by HyperPanel’s OS and Middleware are capable of redistributing TV signals, both Broadcast and IP, but also Photos and Music’s, on any and all multiple screens at home. Doing so, they make advanced IPTV and multiscreen use cases truly universal, because both operator independent, and matching the nearly 100% Broadcast reach. Simultaneously, and without jeopardizing the ultimate multi-‐room Digital TV performances created to enter people’s living-‐rooms, HyperPanel powered multipurpose MHGs can also handle seamlessly multiple IoT to unleash Smart Home at everyone fingertips’, even using the TV remote control and the intuitive family TV screen to do so. Original HyperPanel’s MHG reference platforms are already approved by major market participants, now industrialized, and even booked for early deployments in Q2 2015. 2.2 -‐ LARGE SCALE OFFICE BUILDING HyperPanel has developed and rolled-‐out a complete Back-‐Office platform that is scaled and tailored to manage -‐ from the Cloud and at the edge -‐ either domestic or large scale smart building deployments where both MHG and IoT get an increasingly wider momentum. Beside deploying that Cloud platform to enable operators to remotely manage their MHGs and offer additional smart home services, HyperPanel has selected one enterprise booming market segment in terms of IoT critical scenario: the large scale office buildings. In this large business, energy efficiency management challenging concerns throughout Western countries do translate into smartly fine tuning tens of thousands of sensors and activators per site. 4 Along these lines, HyperPanel IoT Back-‐Office technology has been selected, and then deployed, for SOLARIS, a pioneering energy positive office building nearby Paris where HyperPanel’s platform monitors more than 24,000 IoT and automats. 300,000-‐sqft office space near Paris. Operated since Sept 2014. +24,000 IoT & Automats monitored by HyperPanel’s Back-‐Office. ! Real-‐time Energy Efficiency Management. ! Cloud, and TV rendering. ! Easy to scale.
