Dance your way into summer! Learn various dance styles,
meet new friends and learn how to create dance pieces
together!
BEGINNING DANCE WORKSHOP

Boogie your way into summer! Participants will learn various
dance styles and compositions, creating original ensemble
work and share in our end of summer culmination!

Come explore the basics of acting techniques, scene work
and monologues in a fun environment. In addition, student
actors will be able to make bold acting choices, utilizing their
voice and body in expressive ways. All work will be publicly
shared at the end of program.

Must have at least 2 years of experience in dance class.
This class is for those who may also be interested in
auditioning for the Inner-City Arts Repertory Dance Company
at the end of the summer program.
Do you journal? Rap? Are you always examining the world
around you? Spoken Word is a raw, exciting art form that
allows teens to express their opinions and use their voice. Say
Word summer program assists you with taking your writing
from page to stage, bringing your story to life and spreading
your message. Say Word students present their work in a
showcase to share their poems.

STAND-UP COMEDY CLASS
CREATIVE WRITING

Explore many genres of writing including playwriting, poetry,
song writing, essays, letters and any creative way words want
to find their expression. Find freedom in writing, learn new
techniques, and have fun telling stories using different genres.
Other art forms are also used to connect writers to their
highest levels of creativity.

Do you like to laugh? Want to make someone else laugh? Ever
feel like voicing your opinion? This workshop encourages you to
discover the power of stand-up comedy. Students will play
improv games, explore characters, learn microphone technique,
tricks for capturing the audience, and find out what’s so funny
about their lives. This workshop will culminate in a live stand-up
comedy show.

Learn the fundamentals of guitar technique, music theory and
contemporary music composition. We will cover a variety of
chord progressions, picking/finger style techniques and
popular repertoire. You will gain the tools necessary to create
their own compositions and play them in a positive,
challenging environment.

Come join us for puppet building. You will work in small teams to
design and use simple construction techniques to build puppets
of all sizes. Brainstorm, build and share these large images
through use of materials including cardboard, papier mache,
paint, wood and clay.

Explore and expand your knowledge of Graphic Design
through experimental projects that focus on concept
development and creative processes. In this class you can
take your ideas into production through various graphic
design forms such as, posters, typography, environmental
graphics, logos, and packaging design.
MULTIMEDIA PORTFOLIO
DEVELOPMENT
Make beats and record music! You will use software and
keyboards to discover how to write, produce and record
original music. SESSIONS LA is a music writing, production,
recording, & DJing program for youth and young adults in Los

What do you see? Draw the world around you in this “creative
mark making” class, creating still life compositions, landscapes
and self-portraiture. The middle school curriculum provides a
playful, exploratory approach, while the high school class
provides an opportunity to create portfolio work and explore
personal style.

Would you like to try your hand at inventing things? Ever
made a wire machine or a Mouse trap car? Put your creativity
and your teamwork skills to the test in the Creativity Lab. The
lab is for those who are curious about science, engineering,
visual arts and making things.
Are you interested in building your portfolio to apply to
scholarships and arts-based college programs? Come build a
stronger foundation in drawing, design, presentation skills
and more!

deadline, we welcome you to SHOW
UP to the first class day with a
completed application in hand and if
there is space, you can register then!

LAUSD’s East or South Region,
you are automatically eligible for a
scholarship. Other scholarships
All classes will culminate in a public
showing on Wednesday, July 29th or
