You’re Invited to Explore the Outdoors!

Richmond, VA, April 10, 2015 – The Community Idea Stations is partnering with Chesterfield County Parks and
Recreation to inspire area families to “Explore the Outdoors” on Sunday, April 19th. From nature walks to outdoor
investigations, families, friends, and neighbors are invited to participate in hands-on experiences that encourage
kids to learn about science. The day will feature 40+ local organizations providing outdoor activities for families.
This community event is free and open to the public.

“The Community Idea Stations is proud to partner with
Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation for the third year in a
row to provide families with fun and engaging activities to help
kids explore their environment,” said Trish Reed, the Community
Idea Stations’ Ready to Learn Coordinator.
Parking will be held at Huguenot Park and activities will take place
in the park and on the grounds of the Community Idea Stations
adjacent to the park. Snacks, drinks, and food will be available for
purchase. The station studios will be open for tours and kids will
have a chance to meet Curious George and see themselves on TV!
What can you do at Explore the Outdoors?
 Get up close and personal with live owls, raptors and reptiles
 Hike the trails of Huguenot Park and learn about trees and animal tracks
 Join some "Bug Walks" to uncover all kinds of creatures
 Explore rocks and minerals of Virginia
 Discover hidden Geocaches
 Try your hand at archery
 Climb a tree with a special guide
 Play Fishing games
 Enjoy Nature-based arts and crafts and a recycled art project
 Learn all about bees and how to identify birds and their songs
 Play outdoor games in the field games area
 Meet Smokey the Bear, Curious George and Mermaids and other characters
Online and Mobile Resources for Families
Kids can continue their exploration online with outdoor themed games, activities and videos available on
PBSKIDS.org/outdoors. Parents can also find activities from the on-air episodes and ideas and resources to explore
the outdoors anytime on PBSParents.org/outdoors.
