support the use of medication in social care settings Who is the course for? This unit assesses support for the use of medication in social care settings. It covers broad types, classifications and forms of medication, as well as safe handling and storage. It addresses practical support for the use of medication that reflects social care principles and values and includes the need for accurate record keeping. This unit can be delivered as part of employer’s induction for new staff members or as refresher training for exisiting staff members. The content has been taken directly from the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social qualification which is on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). On successful completion, individuals will be awarded an accredited unit certificate. Course Content Upon completion of this course learners will... • understand the legislative framework for the use of medication in social care • know about common types of medication and their use • understand roles and responsibilities in the use of medication in social care settings • understand the techniques for administering medication • be able to receive, store and dispose of medication supplies safely • know how to promote the rights of the individual when managing medication • be able to support the use of medication • be able to record and report on the use of medication Delivery and Assessment Delivery of this unit will be through classroom based taught sessions in a workshop format, this will include an observation of medication administration in practice. ID Training can facilitate this over 2 days. A minimum of ten people are required for each session and the price per person is £75.
