Developed for dermatologists, these four sessions will highlight tips and accomplishments of patient-based organizations, as well as how individual

This panel presentation with Q&A will provide the audience with examples of the enormous impacts that 3 international and national organizations
have made in terms of advocacy for treatments and for increased access to dermatologists.
Format: 3 panelists with 10-minute presentations and 15 minutes for Q&A
Panelists:
Lars Ettarp, IFPA - The role of International Federation of Psoriasis Associations in securing the WHO resolution, and the advance of
understanding and research of psoriasis via IFPA conferences.
Christine Janus, CSPA/CAPP – Publishing Dermatology Report Cards which impact Canadian policy development for access to treatment and
dermatologists has been supported by Canadian Skin Patient Alliance and Canadian Association of Psoriasis Patients.

An overview of key elements that need to come together for a successful organization and examples of support systems to ensure sustainability.
Each panelist will speak about:

The benefits provided by the organization to them and to the field of dermatology
Format: Overview presentation (9 minutes) followed by 3 panelists with 7-minute presentations and 15 minutes for Q&A

Christine Janus, CSPA / CAPP - Overview of key elements needed for a sustainable organization (hand-out provided)

• A patient leader from an organization founded solely by patients (TBA)

Dermatologists advance patient care in any country through easy support of patient-based organizations. Demonstrating collaboration
on key issues that affect sustainability.
From funding to ethical issues, as well as staffing, engaging volunteers, patient outreach and beyond, 3 patient leaders each provide insight into
current challenges to be followed by practical tips of 2 dermatologists demonstrating how dermatologists can easily support these organizations to
thrive.
Format: Quickfire - PowerPoint-based (Each of 3 leaders present a major challenge their patient organization faced, and 2 dermatologists present
their support and tips for advancement of patient care.)

TBA - 3 respected leaders of patient organizations representing a range of jurisdictions and skin diseases and, 2 dermatologists.
4:15- 5:00
Under the Same Sun – A Tanzanian Success Story.
With myths resulting in fear of witchcraft and exile, Persons with Albinism in Tanzania struggle for assistance in this sun-drenched country where
skin cancer is prevalent due to lack of awareness of Albinism as a genetic disorder, and that the negative impact of sun exposure requires methods
of prevention. The founder, Peter Ash, has been working together with dermatologists, international organizations and patient groups in groundbreaking humanitarian work, and will present this session.
