FRANKLIN DERMATOLOGY IS NOW PART OF Grekin Skin Institute
Patients are the winners in merger between Grekin Skin Institute
and Franklin Dermatology. Skin
is the largest organ of the human
body, so taking good care of it is
essential. Luckily for metro-area
residents, two top-notch dermatology practices have joined
operations, offering patients more
services and resources.
The New Year has ushered
in a new era in dermatology,
Dr. Grekin
as Grekin Skin Institute and
Franklin Dermatology and Surgery Center have merged,
giving patients a wide range of services and the latest technology.
The newly combined practice offers a comprehensive range
of skin care, including full-service cosmetics, medical dermatology, acne treatment and surgical dermatology, including MOHS
surgery. The practice has locations in Warren, Southfield,
Lathrup Village and Wyandotte. In March, a new location in
Shelby Township will open.
The merger combines the vast knowledge and expertise of two
renowned dermatologists: Dr. Steven Grekin and Dr. Steven Shumer.
Dr. Grekin has been practicing dermatology for 20 years, and
is the sixth out of seven dermatologists in his family. Dr. Grekin
is also a consultant to large pharmaceutical companies and news
organizations around the world.
In 2012, Dr. Grekin spearheaded the launch of his Bedside
Dermatology division, which brings compassionate dermatological care to patients in nursing homes and assisted living
facilities. Dr. Shumer has been practicing dermatology for 30
years, serving as Chairman of the Dermatology Department
at William Beaumont Hospital from 1995 until 2011. He has
been voted “Top Doc” in dermatology numerous times in
Hour Detroit magazine.
Dr. Shumer is active in the Michigan Dermatological Society,
and has served as chairman of the ethics committee.
Rounding out the physician experts at the Southfield
practice is Dr. Michelle Bruner,
who has a special interest in
women’s dermatological health.
Dr. Bruner has lectured on dermatology topics nationally, and
is published in multiple medical
journals. She and Dr. Grekin
are accepting new patients.
The practice also offers
the services of an experienced physician assistant,
Dr. Bruner
Adam Gomoll, and a nurse
practitioner, Tracy St. Germain.
The newly combined practice
will offer patients many advantages, the doctors agreed.
“In today’s medical climate,
bigger is better,” said Dr. Grekin.
“When Dr. Shumer and I merge
our practices, we will harness
more knowledge and offer superior cutting-edge technology
to our patients. We will have
nearly 20 providers, so it really
Dr. Shumer
takes our service to the next level.”
“This merger will give patients much more readily available
care by qualified physicians who are compassionate and caring,
and who have different interests in dermatology,” said Dr. Shumer.
“There is a lot of synergy between our practices, and we will
service all skin needs of our patients on a very timely basis.”
“We will have specialists in cosmetics, acne, skin cancer,
psoriasis, and women’s skin issues,” said Dr. Grekin. “Whatever the skin-care need is, it will all be treated onsite. The caring,
compassion and concern that both Dr. Shumer and I feel for our
patients makes this the perfect merger. We are patient-centric
and we offer cutting-edge therapy.”
