It’s about making your students respond and communicate. This works for introvert students too. Giving your students the right push to excel and encouraging them to participate in all academic and co curriculum activities is necessary. You will also be able to build a strong teacher student rapport this way. 2 Set an example: You must remember this as a teacher. Students always look up to their teachers for guidance, advice and as role models. They even try to follow you at times. It is necessary that students see you as a confident person and are able to trust you. 3 Know that each student is gifted: A great teacher knows this and mentors his students so that they perform up to their potential. 4 Make them question everything: Questioning what’s going on around you and what is being taught in class helps in learn. But not every student is like that. As a teacher you must be able to cultivate curiosity in your students and tell them how important it is to ask questions and seek answers. 5 Take learning beyond books: Learning is not just about imbibing knowledge through books. ATTITUDE The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company… a church … a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for the day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react. And so it is with you … we are in charge of our attitudes. Take Control Of My Life How to take control of my life? Perhaps a parable will help you see my point. One of the boys held the little bird in his hands and asked the old man if the bird was dead or alive. 1. Our corporate governance regime supports IEC in protecting the interests of our stakeholders, by creating long term and sustainable stakeholder value another fundamental group of our stakeholders – Students. To achieve this, our governance is structured to address conflicts, align interests and allow for efficient and wellfounded Board and management decisions. As in all other aspects, we continuously strive to improve in the interests of all stakeholders. In 2014, we have undertaken an extensive review of our corporate governance regime, benchmarking it against international best practice, and have identified a number of improvement opportunities that we will implement in 2015. Many new committees have been formed from time to time by different bodies of the University. Besides this the University has come up with ‘Research and Development Cell’ to oversee our research and development strategy and evaluate the effectiveness and competitiveness of our research and development organization. We firmly believe that stakeholder engagement is crucial for the long-term success of our University. It should be conducted in an atmosphere of trust and respect that allows for a collaborative dialogue in which views and positions between IEC and its stakeholders are expressed openly to enhance mutual understanding. As Universities have become increasingly interdependent with external forces, institutions are accountable to external organizational relationships such as State and Central Governments, equally in managing business and corporate relationships. Good corporate governance helps organizations operate more efficiently, improve access to capital, mitigate risk and safeguard against mismanagement. It makes organizations more accountable and transparent to investors and other stakeholders and gives them the tools to respond to legitimate stakeholder concerns such as sustainable environmental and social development. Corporate governance also contributes to development. Increased access to capital encourages new investments, boosts economic growth, and provides employment opportunities. The Members of different authorities and other employees are bind by the code while dealing with different interests of the Company. The code of conduct may also be read at Universities’ website: www.iecuniversity.com (i) Ownership pattern: It shows how much amount of shares is hold by specific set of people. Universities’ ownership comprises 100 percent, out of this certain percentage is hold by promoters and rest by outside parties like retail, FII and so on. There are two main sections: the promoter and promoter group and the public shareholding. Promoters are the entities that floated the University. Relatives of the promoters who hold shares also fall under this class and are termed the promoter group. As the university is self financed as per the IEC act, the question of public shareholding doesn’t arises at all. The shareholding pattern of the University is as follows: Endowment fund from VEF, the sponsoring body: 5.25% Unsecured loans from promoters and VEF: 46.26% Secured loans from banks and financial institutions: 48.49% (j) COMPARATIVE STATEMENT OF BUDGET COMPARATIVE STATEMENT Particulars ADMISSION EXPENSES ADVERTISEMENT AND PUBLICITY APPLICATION FEE BOOKS BUSINESS PROMOTION EXPENSES COMMISSION COMPUTER REPAIR COMPUTER SOFTWARE COMPUTER STATIONARY CONSULTANCY CHARGES CONVEYANCE DONATION ELECTRICITY CHARGES ENTERTAINMENT EXPENSES ENVIRONMENTAL FEE EXAMINATION EXPENSES FACULTY EXPENSES GENERAL EXPENSES GENERATOR RUNNING HIRING CHARGES INSURANCE INTEREST ON OD INTEREST CHARGES INTERVIEW EXPENSES LABORATORY EXPENSES LABOUR CHARGES LEASE RENT LEGAL EXPENSES MEMBERSHIP FEE N/PAPER AND PERIODICAL OVERTIME DUTY EXPENSES PHOTOCOPY EXPENSES PHOTOGRAPHY EXPENSES POOJA EXPENSES POSTAGE PRACTICAL EXAMINATION EXPENSES PRINTING AND STATIONARY RENT REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE SALARY AND ALLOWANCE(FROM SHEET 2) SANITATION WATCH AND WARD SPORTS EXPENSES STAFF WELFARE STUDENT WELFARE TEACHER DAY CELEBRATION TELEPHONE EXPENSES TRAVELLING EXPENSES VEHICLE RUNNING AND MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP EXPENSES MISC. Wider, global factors are also influencing change, including the rapid internationalisation of education, global competition for talent and research funding and the commodification of education. In the next decade, India will experience enormous growth in its middle classes: from 50 million now, to 500 million by 20257. By 2020, India will be the world’s third largest economy. The relationship between economic growth and growth in the tertiary enrolment ratio is particularly strong for economies with lower levels of GDP (purchasing power parity) per capita. As India’s economy continues to grow, a huge number of first generation learners will demand access to higher education. In ten years’ time, 25 million households across India will have an income equivalent to $15,000 and will be able to pay fees for higher education, an increase of 15 million on today’s enrolment rates8. However, growth will be uneven; India will be challenged by a growing disparity between those who have access to better life chances, and those who do not. Despite huge strides in primary enrolment rates, India still has the largest number of out-of-school children in the world, more than the whole of sub-Saharan Africa, and 69% of India’s population still lives on less than $2 a day9. The World Bank categorises India as “an extreme dual economy”. Another significant driver for educational change is population growth and the demographic profile. More than 50% of India’s population is under the age of 25. By 2020, India will have one of the youngest populations in the world, with an average age of 29 years10. India will outpace China in the next ten years as the country with the largest tertiary-age population11 and its relative success in boosting primary enrolment, access to secondary education and improved retention rates should see it have the largest growth in tertiary enrolment in the world in 202012. The OECD predicts that in 2020, 200 million of the world’s 25-34 year olds will be university graduates and 40% of these will be from China and India13, representing a huge proportion of the global talent pool. There are currently more than a dozen education bills pending in parliament16, some of particular importance to foreign institutions. The Universities for Research and Innovations Bill (2012), for example, would allow universities to act as hubs for education, research and innovation which would be open to all, including foreign institutions, and would also permit the recruitment of foreign faculty. The general view holds that this bill has a better chance of being passed; in contrast, the Foreign Educational Institutions Bill regulating entry of foreign providers is regarded as unlikely to become law in the medium-term. A list of the bills, their aims and possible relevance to UK institutions is contained in the Annexes. Various issues at both state and central levels, including concerns about exploitation and competition, are delaying the passing of several of these bills. However, despite impressive growth, India’s higher education gross enrolment ratio (GER) at 18% is currently well below the global average of 27%. This difference is even more stark when compared to China and Brazil at 26% and 36% respectively (2010 figures)19. The government plans to increase GER in higher education to 30% by 202020. This will require a transformational change at a pace and scale never seen before. As India currently has 26 million students enrolled in tertiary education, by illustration, it would need another 800 universities and over 40,000 colleges in the next eight years to provide the planned additional 14 million places (40 million places by 2020-21. At current growth rates, India will fall very far short of this figure, therefore the Indian government has put an ambitious five-year plan into place to boost the rate of expansion significantly. (2) Government initiative: a. b. c. d. 100% FDI in education allowed through automatic route. An Advisory Body known as (NKC) National Knowledge Commission has been set up. NKC recommends Government in focusing and plan outlay on education. NKC has recommended that the number of universities increase from the present 370 to 1500 by 2015, considered a highly ambitious target, but inadequate to meet demand for quality education e. For higher education, an expenditure of USD 37.13 billion has been projected to achieve the proposed objectives during the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) f. In December 2010, AICTE notified regulations for grant of approval of technical institutions. The AICTE permitted Section 25 Company to act as a sponsoring body of a technical institute with the rider that no foreign investment (directly or indirectly) will be permitted in such a company. g. As a result of National Elections held during the month of May 2014, Ms. Smriti Jubin Irani was appointed as the New HRD Minister. During her presence as HRD Minister, many initiatives are taken across all India to help promote education. The University whole Heartedly welcomes the initiatives taken by the Ministry and further endeavors to work in line with the MHRD. (3) Internal Control System: The University has a proper and adequate system of internal controls commensurate with its size and nature of operations to provide reasonable assurance that all assets are safeguarded, transactions are authorized, recorded and reported properly and applicable statutes, codes of conduct and corporate policies are duly complied with. The Internal Audit Department reviews the adequacy and efficacy of the key internal controls. The scope of the audit activity is guided by the annual audit plan, which is approved by the Finance Committee of the University. (4) Whistle Blower Policy: A whistle Blower Policy of IEC University has been approved at meeting of Board of Management dated 11.10.2013, which states out the procedure to be followed in case any improper activity is observed. A complete set of the policy is available for viewing @ http://iecuniversity.com/wpcontent/uploads/2013/11/WHISTLE-BLOWER-POLICY.pdf (5) Management’s Responsibility Management’s Responsibility can be defined as the obligation of the Management towards the Society and the other Concerned. If the Management does not react to changes in social demands, the society will either force them to do so through laws or will not permit the enterprise to survive. Therefore the long term interests are best served when management assumes social responsibilities. For long term success, it matters a great deal if the firm has a favorable image in public’s mind. Therefore it is important for Management to consider whether their policies and actions are likely to promote the public good, advances the basic values of society, and constitute to its stability, strength and harmony. Increasing concern for social responsibility of management, it is now recognized that besides taking care of the financial interests of the owners, managers of business firms must also take into account the interest of various other groups such as employees, students, government and community as a whole. The primary responsibility of the management is to assure a fair and responsible growth of the University and assessment of the risks to the University. Ultimately the growth of the University ensures the growth of the Students at the end. Management’s responsibility towards the employees relates to the fair wages, salaries, satisfactory work environment, labor management relations and employee welfare. Fair wages shall be fixed in the light of labor productivity, the prevailing wage rates in the same or neighboring areas and relative importance of Jobs. As a part of their social responsibility management must conduct the affairs of the University in lawful manner, honestly pay all the taxes and dues and should not corrupt public officials for selfish ends. The activities must confirm to the economic and social policies of the Government. (6) No. of Holidays A list of holidays in a calendar year has been prepared and circulated to all concerned in advance.
