Local professionals and tertiary students. (Workshop in English) This year we are blending the Yardstick Europe User Group into a professional development program for those people looking to both find out more about benchmarking in the parks sector and those looking to work toward professional accreditation. Continuing development is a critical component of the park, recreation, and protected lands management profession. This session provides two related educational sessions: 1. a review of continuing education best practices, the value of certification and continuing education, and review of the World Parks Academy program. 2. A review of the 2014 benchmark outcomes, discussion around areas to be benchmarked in 2016 and the opportunity to see what some members have discovered from user surveys about their users desires for parks. How do we know if we are doing a good job unless we measure and report on our progress? Program Outline 1. Introduction 1.1. Welcome to joint workshop and introductions 1.2. Review objectives and time schedule 1.3. Questions from audience 2. Continuing Professional Development in the World Parks Academy 2.1. Introduction and review of components of a profession 2.2. Review of professional development benefits and role of World Urban Parks, World Parks Academy as cooperative ventures 2.3. Discussion; How does professional development occur and how to track it 2.4. Individual Development Planning (IDP); informal and formal use 2.5. Toward certification as one way to assure continuing professional development 2.6. The role of elder statesman; the CIPP role in mentoring younger professionals 2.7. Continuing Professional Development (Education) as a requirement; and how to maintain credentials. 3. Using Best Practices and Benchmarks with Yardstick 3.1. Review of some of the 2014 Europe Benchmark results 3.2. Discuss the data and questions specifically from the Yardstick Europe section and how these might be adjusted for 2016 3.3. Review how the new Survey tool operates using iPads and the data collection techniques 3.4. Review some of the results from parks surveys and discuss the implications of these results 3.5. Consider how we grow the participation in the project in future years 3.6.
