Shamrock Classic 2015 – High School National Division Recap
Just one week removed from crowning 4 IHSAA State Champions and the kids are back in the gym. The club season as usual kicks
off with one of March’s biggest events the 13th annual Shamrock Classic. Over 100+ teams from five states playing in this 3 day
event. The last 2 champions being Sky Diggs Elite Gold (2014) & Best Choice (2013). No shortage of talent in this event as 15
eventual 2013 & 14 Indiana All Stars have participated over the previous two years including Whitney Jennings (Indiana Miss
Basketball), Tya Reimer (IN AS / Notre Dame), and Bridget Perry (IN AS/ Purdue) to name a few. The 2015 Classic would feature
more of the same including several Indiana Junior All-Stars in the event.
Indy Magic Blanding got the 2015 Shamrock Classic kicked off Friday evening with a tough fought come from behind win in the
opening game of pool play. From there they set the pace and led the field with a 5-0 record and the 2015 National Division
Shamrock Classic Championship. Led by tournament MVP 2017 6’0 wing Madison Wise, Greenfield Central, who was dominate
on both ends of the floor throughout the weekend. All Tourney team selection 2017 5’10 G Rachel McLimore provided ample
offense, including 19 second half points in the championship game, showing her offensive versatility through the 5 games. 2016
Indiana Junior All-Star Holly Hoopingarner was efficient as always, controlling tempo, setting up teammates and scoring when
needed.
Sky Diggs Gold rolled through pool play using a balance attack and a high scoring offense before coming up cold in the
Championship and finishing runner up in the National Division. SDE was led by 2016 Indiana JR All Star and All Tourney team
selection 5’10 W Katelyn O’Reilly, Noblesville, who let her presence be known on both ends of the floor all weekend, along with
a solid weekend from 6’0 wing Haliegh Reinoehl, Westfield.
Indiana Flight Thunder used two buzzer beaters by 2018 G Cassidy Hardin, Center Grove, to win their pool and advance
before losing in their semi-final matchup. The Thunder was led by All-Tourney team selection 2017 6’0 wing Riley Blackwell,
Plainfield, who was a consistent presence for the Thunder throughout the weekend.
Sky Diggs Green was the fourth semi-finalist finishing second in pool play. SDE Green was led throughout the weekend by the
duo of All Tourney team selection 2016 G/W Allison Van Dyke of Westfield, who had 20 pts in the semifinal, along with 2017
PG Daily Sullivan, South Bend St Joe.
Other All Tourney team selections in in the National Division included SDE 2017 PG Ashlyn Huffman (Franklin Central). Indy
Magic Scott 2018 PG Angel Baker (Pike). Indiana Flight South 2017 F Taylor Drury (Eastern), Top Recruit Diamonds 2018 PG Keya
Patton (Inpls Cathedral), Flight Xtreme G Lauren McBryar (Mooresville).
