Writing lyrics for your song.
Follow the eight steps below to write your lyrics.
1. Think of a topic. Spend some time thinking of something that is inspiring to you,
bothering you, or making you upset. Think of something that has changed your life, or
think of a person who you admire.
2. Be original. Try not to write a song about the same topics everyone else does.
3. Write down a couple of ideas that you've thought of.
4. Look through magazines and find interesting phrases which inspire you and remind
you of your experiences. Write down all your thoughts on the topic
5. Write the song in the form of a story. This kind of song is interesting to listen to and will
keep listeners hanging on till the end of the song.
6. The song should have simple language no matter how complicated your feelings are.
7. Perhaps the song doesn't need to revolve around your own feelings? Try making your
lyrics political, mystical (For Example, Stairway to Heaven), issues in another country or
person. And of course, if you're feeling funky, loud or brutal you can base your lyrics into
the suitable rhythm and melodies.
8. If you are a dedicated, loyal fan of a certain band you could try adapting their
techniques. This isn't copying or something that makes you look bad, it's just inspiration.
Write down some of your ideas in the box below.
