TRAINING PROGRAMME- TOURISM ASSISTANT-2015 Last date for application Wednesday, 27th May 2015 Page 1 of 8 HUGE SCOPE OF EMPLOYMENT IN TOURISM & HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY Tourism account for US $ 2.1 trillion 2013, representing 2.9% of world GDP as per the World Travel and Tourism Council – Benchmarking Travel and Tourism- Global Summary. According to the Tourism Trends 2030 of UNWTO international tourist arrivals will increase by 3.3%. and Asia and Pacific have shown the biggest growth of 3%. It is one of the largest generators of the employment across the world and women account for 70% of workforce in tourism and travel industry. Travel and hospitality industry in India is the third largest foreign exchange earner, accounting for 2.5 per cent of GDP. It also makes a direct contribution to economy with significant linkages with agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts and construction. As per Ministry of Tourism Government of India India Tourism Statistic 2013 The foreign tourist arrival was 6.97 million with an annual growth rate of 5.9% with the growth rate of 14% in foreign exchange earnings. The position of India is 42nd in World Tourist Arrivals. As per Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) data 2009-10, the contribution of tourism to India’s GDP was 6.8% and its contribution to total employment generation was10.2%. As per 12th Five Year Plan approach paper, India’s travel and tourism industry is estimated to create 78 jobs per million rupees of investment compared to 45 jobs in manufacturing sector. India’s share in international tourist arrivals was 0.64% in year 2011 where as in case of international tourism receipts, it was 1.61%. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) have named India along with China as one of the fastest growing tourism industries for the next 10 to 15 years. Tourism today is the most vibrant tertiary sectors and strong hold of the economy. Tourism development has always been an integral part of the country’s five year plans. The Hotel Industry in India is set to grow at 15% a year. This figure will skyrocket in 2015. Already, more than 50 international budget hotel chains are moving into India to stake their turf. Therefore, with opportunities galore the future 'Scenario of Indian Hotel Industry' looks rosy” (Kumar, 2013). The presence of world-class hospitals and skilled medical professionals make India a preferred destination for medical tourism. Medical tourism could 2|Page earn India US$ 2.2 billion per year by 2012. Tour operators are teaming up with hospitals to tap this market (IBEF, 2013). THE SCHEME OF TOURISM ASSISTANT PROGRAMME This programme is designed as a tourism professional skill development & skill upgradation for: tour assistant, transfer assistant and for information assistant in tourism sector. This programme is a special effort under EWYL (Earn While You Learn) initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. This programme is a step forward to make young graduates employable in the fastest growing industry in India i.e. tourism industry. Along with Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management(IITTM), would offer this training programme –Tourism Assistant to uniquely synergizes upon young graduate youths to the tourism and hospitality industry. The conduct of the programme will also integrally connect itself to the Campaign Clean India – an important initiative of the Ministry of Tourism which specifically focuses on the cleanliness around and in proximity of the heritage sites. THE PROGRAMME This programme would offer a great learning environment and inputs from accomplished speakers. Besides lectures, the programme would increasingly use activity based learning. It would include: Course material Lunch during the programme Certification of completion Uniform Placement Assistance. 3|Page COURSE DURATION The programme shall be of 06 weeks (30 working days) with 08 hours per day. COURSE CONTENT The broad areas of learning will include: overview of tourism; Introduction to India society & culture; an overview of Hospitality industry & accommodation sector; introduction to transport system and various form of connectivity-air, road, water; workings of travel agencies and tour operators; working knowledge of computers; designing tours & itineraries; effective communication skills, professional etiquettes and body languages, office time management; tourists group management, handling complaints; dealing with tourists’ questions; understanding tourists’ behaviour; tourism Ethics; Inputs on tour guiding and escorting and handling emergencies; pride in nation with learning responsible tourism. STIPEND A trainee with a minimum attendance of 90% and successful completion of training will be paid lump sum stipend of Rs. 1,500/- at the end of programme. UNIFORM Each trainee would be provided uniform. CERTIFICATION The trainees with minimum attendance of 90% will be required to appear in the end of the course test – practical and viva-voce. Those who pass the test successfully will be awarded certificates by the IITTM. However, the Director, IITTM will have the discretion for the reasons to be recorded in writing to relax attendance norm by 10% for the purpose of stipend and appearance in test. TRAINING: The training will be conducted at IITTM NOIDA campus with the help of its own Faculty and experts from the field. PLACEMENT: IITTM will make efforts to place the trained participants with the industry. 4|Page ADMISSION INFORMATION FOR TOURISM ASSISTANT Number of Seats: Tourism Assistant programme at IITTM NOIDA would admit 40 candidates in a batch. Eligibility: Residents of India, Graduate in any stream of education will be eligible and in the age group of 18-28 years on the last date of receipt of application. Selection Mode ( if required): Candidates interested in participating in the programme are required to apply in the prescribed format in response to advertisement issued by IITTM, NOIDA. The selection will be through a written test of 60 minutes duration. The test will carry maximum marks of 50 with multiple choice questions on: current affairs, history, and general awareness. Application Fee: There will be fees of Rs. 200/- as application form fees to cover the cost of conducting the entrance examination and other selection cost.
