A PUBLICATION OF THE PROVIDENCE LAKES MASTER ASSOCIATION, INC. Upcoming Meetings The monthly meetings are held at Indigo Point Apartments, 1850 Providence Lakes Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511 Important News to go with Spring Rain A big spring greeting is extended to the Providence Lakes homeowners. It is trying to rain as I draft this note. “Invisible Heroes’, thank you! The invisible heroes are our neighbors who pick-up the litter along our roadways and sidewalks. Most importantly, thank you to the neighbors who set the standard for well-maintained homes and yards. These standards are what all should be striving for in our community. There are a number of important items to cover in this newsletter: We have a new paint palette! The Board approved these Sherwin Williams colors at the April meeting. You can find the list in this newsletter. The ACC application requires some adjustments for the new paint schemes. We are in the process of updating the ACC form to the new paint palette. Providence Lakes, as you know, is a Deed Restricted Community and it is what you bought into when you purchased your house in one of our many Villages’. It is in your best interest to access http://www.providencelakeshoa.com and retain the Deed Restrictions/Covenants relating to the Association and your Village. You will need them as you plan any exterior home improvements and/or annual maintenance on your property. If you have trouble locating them contact: 813 600-1100 Louise (ext136) or Liz (ext 125), or email [email protected] or [email protected]. “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” is Saturday, May 2, 2015. Registration is 7:30 AM, at Superior Residences of Brandon on Providence Ridge. Look inside for more details or go to act.alz.org/ goto/musicmakers . Attention Ledgestone homeowners in the 1500 block, please plan and pull your car up past the sidewalk so the sidewalk is clear of vehicles and obstructions for the 5K runners. The Community-Wide Garage/Yard Sale is planned for the third Saturday during the months of April and October. Expect the banners at the two Community entrances and the two major local papers to carry the neighborhood wide notice. Do you have a bad road and/or potholed road in your Village? To bring attention to this, please call Hillsborough County Public Works Customer Service, at 813-635-5400 and/or email them at [email protected] to make a report. This is how we are going to get attention to having our roads repaired, ahead of schedule; which is a few years off! Currently there are no water restrictions so let’s get going on those yards that need a helping hand and landscape replacement. At the same time, please take a curbside look at your fence. It is time to replace some of those twenty-plus year old fences. Use the ACC application to ensure you meet all of the deed restrictions and covenants as they relate to your village or home. If you have any questions contact our Community Association Manager, Louise Brown, [email protected] or (813) 600-1100 ext 136. Remember per our Covenants, you cannot store trash bins in public view. Spring Cleaning from the Top Down Roof Cleaning Green algae and black algae called “gloeocapsa magma” form on roofs, where high humidity is prevalent, and can cause damage to roofing materials. It may take up to 10 years before “black streaks” become present. These streaks on the roofs are also likely to harbor a number of molds or fungi. Unlike algae, the fungi on roofs lack chlorophyll and cannot manufacture food from raw materials. The algae must get nutrients from some form of organic matter. Fungi normally begin a life cycle as an air borne spore that settles on roofs. Roof cleaning can maintain and provide longevity to a shingled roof and any outer material that is supported by a tar. Tar used in roofing is fossilized, dead organic matter and an important food source for fungi. Fungi attack asphalt, at the granule base, first. Once these granules dislodge, accelerated deterioration of the roof itself occurs. Roof cleaning became more common when shingle manufacturers produced fiberglass instead of asphalt shingles. The limestone in fiberglass shingles, which is added for weight, attracts the bacteria and it begins to spread. Please take the time before the end of May to look at your roof. If you see any darkened/ discolored areas, you need to have it professionally cleaned or you can use a do it yourself product from a home improvement store. Your Association’s deed restrictions/ covenants require you to maintain your roof. Thank you in advance for your continued support of the community!!! Board of Directors Never leave dogs alone in the yard while you are vacationing…. Dogs are pack animals and need companionship. They get frustrated at being left alone, they may chew and damage outdoor furniture, etc. and regardless of the quality of the fence you have, they can dig out of your yard. Most dogs – especially hounds and sporting breeds – can dig vigorously. If your dog smells a raccoon or a chicken bone on the other side of the fence, will he resist the temptation to get at what he wants? What if boredom sets in while he’s left outside all alone? Think again if you trust your dog not to dig under your fence. Dogs have been known to scale 6-foot fences. Some simply leap over them, while others actually find footholds to climb up and over. Dogs are notorious for chewing – and possibly eating – things they’re not supposed to. This is especially true if the dog is young. There are many hazards out there – poisonous plants (like sago palms), pesticides and other articles that, when left on the ground and chewed up by your dog, can cause serious injury. What would your dog do if confronted in her back yard by a poisonous snake? A raccoon? A feral cat? All of these can potentially injure or even kill your dog.
