Interviewing Skills for Educators S ince interviewing is a necessary skill in obtaining a job, and one that determines the future of a teacher, it is important that aspiring teachers know how to conduct themselves appropriately on an interview. “candidates” will be given interview questions ahead of time and will be taught how to answer them in a most effective manner. Then, each “candidate” will participate in a mock interview (the set up is similar to that of a real interview), and will be critiqued by his/her classmates as well as the instructor. After participating in this workshop, potential educators will walk into a reallife interview fully prepared, void of surprise. The following topics will also be covered: •What should a candidate bring to an interview? •Appropriate dress. •Appropriate questions an interviewee should ask—this will also include inappropriate questions as well. •The composition of an interviewing committee—who will be asking the questions? •Preparation for an interview—what should an interviewee do to prepare him/herself prior to the interview? •Applying for jobs online.
