CHIEF SYNOPTIC FEATURES AND ASSOCIATED WEATHER:
Last week’s off shore trough at MSL from south Gujarat coast to north Kerala
coast persisted on 19th & 22nd June, it ran from Gujarat coast to north Kerala coast on 20th, from
Gujarat coast to Kerala coast on 21st and from centre of depression to North Kerala coast on
remaining two days of week.
Last week’s low pressure area over West-central& adjoining Northwest Bay of
Bengal off south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh with associated upper air cyclonic circulation
extending upto 7.6 km asl tilted south westward with height persisted on 18th. It became well
marked low on 19th and futher intensified into depression and lay centered near lat. 18.50 N & long.
85.50 E at 1200 UTC of 20/06/2015 about 450 km from Puri, it moved northwestward and crossed
south Odisha coast between Gopalpur & Puri around 0630 hrs IST of 21/06/2015 and lay centred at
08:30 hrs IST near lat.20.00 N & long. 85.00 E about 90 km southeast of Phulbani.
The upper air cyclonic circulation over north Arabian Sea off Gujarat coast
between 1.5 & 4.5 km asl persisted on 18th, 19th & 20th June. Under influence of this upper air cycir
a low pressure area formed over northeast Arabian Sea off Gujarat coast and lay as well marked low
on 21st, it intensified further into depression at 17:30 hrs IST of 22/06/2015 lay near 20.00 N & 67.00
E about 320 km southwest of Porbandar, intensified into deep depression and crossed Gujarat coast
between 14:30 & 15:30 hrs Ist and lay centred over Sourashtra & neighborhood near lat.20.00 N &
long. 71.30 E on 23/06/2015. On 24th 08:30 hrs IST it lay near Lat.220 N & 720 E to south east of
Ahmedabad.
Southwest monsoon was vigorous over Goa on 20th and active on 18th, 19th, 21st
June. It was weak over Goa on 23rd &24th June. Rain occurred at most places in Goa during the
week.
