Partnership Talking Points - Imhotep Institute Charter High School

Imhotep Institute Charter High School and
Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School Partnership
Strength in Unity!
Imhotep Institute Charter High School and Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter
School are embarking upon a partnership to strengthen student outcomes in both
schools and to affirm the efficacy of culturally responsive/social justice pedagogies
as part of a holistic academically rigorous education.
Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School is this country’s first school based on the
Freedom School model. It is a K-12 institution committed to providing an education
that is based on scholarship, cultural democracy, and social activism. It has had
impressive results in its first six years of serving children in the Frankford
community.
Imhotep Institute Charter High School has been a trailblazer in African Centered
Education nationally for the past 18 years. It looks forward to continuing to serve
the West Oak Lane community and beyond as a culturally responsive institution that
is excited about growing as a center for the exploration of Science, Math, and
Technology, as articulated in its original charter.
While both schools will remain independent as they deliver their own unique
missions as articulated in their charters, they will capitalize on opportunities to
share cross-curricular programming, instructional strategies, socialization
programs, and professional development activities. Moreover, these schools look
forward to forming collaborative teams of parents, teachers, students, and
administrative leaders across institutions.
In these times of great vulnerability for independent charter schools, Imhotep and
Sankofa look to establish a new model for school collaboration based on communal
principles rooted in the African traditions that both schools revere!
Together these institutions aim to show there truly is strength in Unity!
