IMMANUEL LUTHERAN SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Friday, April 24, 2015 ______________________________________________________________________ Today we celebrated our Grandparents in grades 1-4 with a special performance of our operetta - Land Of The Giants! What a wonderful day it was to see how excited the children were to show their Grandparents/VIPs how diligently they have been practicing their acting and singing parts. So much to be proud of at Immanuel! We are so proud of all our performers, staff and of all of our families that made our operetta possible!! Please join us tonight and or Saturday afternoon as the children perform yet two more performances for you! They have been working so hard all month and it shows! We thank God for the gifts He continues to shower upon us! Friday, April 24th 7:00 pm and Saturday, April 25th 4:00 pm in Immanuel's School gym. All are invited to come enjoy the show as the Giants' little league baseball team climbs through a loose fence board to discover a LAND OF THE GIANTS. LET’s PLAY BALL!! Casting Call for Immanuel Lutheran Students (Grades 4-7) Larry Dombrowski (4th grader Ben Dombrowski's dad) from Logica3 and their video production partner, Forward Motion Media are creating a set of educational science experiment videos for kids that live in farming communities. The videos promote farm and propane safety through safe, fun, and engaging experiments that can be done with common household items. The project is sponsored by the Propane Education & Research Council, a not-for-profit organization that represents the propane industry. We are looking for 8 to 10 energetic students in Grades 4-7 to participate in our video shoot. Kids should be comfortable in front of a camera, be able to follow direction, and maintain their enthusiasm for a half-day shoot. Students need to be able to deliver simple lines with energy with others on the set. The students will assist our actor, "Propane Paul," a mid-20s kooky science guy in conducting the science experiments (to view three short videos with Propane Paul, go to propane.com/amazing-farm). The casting call will take place on Tuesday, April 28th after school (3:20 pm — 4:00 pm) in the science classroom at Immanuel Lutheran. Parents are welcome to attend. We will ask each student to read a few lines, but this will mostly be an informal meeting to ensure everyone is comfortable working with each other and to answer any questions. Our team will select two groups of students on Friday, May 1st. If your student is interested in participating or if you have any questions, please contact Larry Dombrowski at [email protected]. A donation of $600 will be made to the Immanuel Lutheran science classroom in the names of the students that participate in the project. Immanuel is excited to offer a new summer camp this June for students in Grades 3 - 8! Our camp is scheduled for the afternoons of our VBS week June 8 - 12 - from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Science Lab. STEAM camp information can be found at www.cuw.edu/steam Our camp will be titled Save a Heart. (STEAM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.) In this camp, students will take on the role of a young cardiologist and explore parts of the heart and how they work. We will be building heart models (younger students), and dissecting a cow/sheep heart (older students). We will investigate ways to maintain a healthy heart through diet and exercise, and design ways to ‘fix’ a broken heart through simulations of angioplasty and stents. If you child enjoys science, likes to learn, and is interested in how the body works, this could be the camp for you! The cost for camp is $99 for the week. (After the May 26 registration deadline, the cost goes up) Mrs. Domeier has served as a STEAM camp instructor for the last 6 years, and is excited to be able to offer this camp to our Immanuel families! If you have questions, please see the website or stop by the school office. Chess comes to Immanuel Lutheran School! Starting April 20, the school is offering instruction in chess, the "Game of Kings." Mondays after school, 27 boys and girls ranging from Kindergarten through 7th grade are learning a game that has been played all over the world for centuries. 35 million Americans of all ages regularly play chess. It's a great way for children to connect with parents, grandparents, and fellow students. Chess is widely believed to raise IQ, increase creativity, improve memory, sharpen concentration, and teach planning and foresight. In short, chess makes kids smarter. Trained chess teachers are following a developed curriculum to teach Immanuel students of all skill levels in chess fundamentals. The class includes instruction, supervised play, and an in-class tournament. SAVE the DATE – Sunday, August 9.
