Postpartum Doula Care Description and Supplies List Thank you for trusting me to care for you during this transformative time! During my postpartum visits, I will make you a nutritive pot of postpartum tea, give you a baño (herbal slap bath), sobada, and cerrada de caderas. I make you two caldos, and a big pot of Mexican atole. My visits take four hours maximum, for three days in a row, beginning directly after birth. Then, on your cuarentena (40th day postpartum), I will perform the ritual cerrada de caderas (hip closing), for the last time, and acomodar la matriz (uterine massage and adjustment). If you have dietary requests, questions, or additional needs, I am here for you. The following is a list of key items I will use: For sitz bath These recipes are great! Choose one, go with the flow, or mix and match. Amor- (4-8oz of each) Comfrey; yarrow; calendula; plantain; and Himalayan salt (9oz). Optional: 1 lemon, 1 orange Alma Mexicana- Ruda, eucalipto, romero, hojas de aguacate (my grandmother, Alma’s Recipe). Soups Healing soups are the best first foods postpartum. Seasonal: Greens; vegetables; protein; fresh herbs, organic meats (optional), and organic, grass-fed joints and marrow bones for making healing bone broth. Afterbirth Tea Cleanses your entire body, primarily your womb. Enhances vitality, healing, relaxation, and bonding. Fresh ginger root (4 large roots) Three big bundles of cinnamon sticks 3 oranges 3 lemons 8oz of Red Raspberry Leaf tea INDIGEMAMA : PostPartum Doula Care Supplies List INDIGEMAMA.COM | [email protected] Optional (one or all): nettle, dandelion, lemon balm, alfalfa, lady’s mantle, red clover, clove, hibiscus, peppercorn, clove Atole Atoles are traditionally given to postpartum women to rebalance electrolytes, relax uterine ligaments, enrich and increase breastmilk, calm, warm and nourish the mother- from the inside out. I will bring this freshly made from scratch, or make it at your house. Raw cacao powder (optional) Raw, organic honey (6lbs) Cornmeal or corn flour (organic, non GMO) Raw or nut milk (optional) Cinnamon sticks Vanilla bean or pure extract of vanilla (optional) Clove (optional) Soups Healing soups are the best first foods postpartum. Note: I will bring the ingredients above (if nature’s seasons allow), except for the following: Organic Meats Raw/organic dairy Any item not on this list, or a specific tea that you would like extra amounts of (ie. extra comfrey) Spices for soup (I use what you have) *Please let me know if I am able to use any extra ingredients from your refrigerator, especially to prevent the spoiling of food while you are recovering.
