Doug Payne, of DPEquestrian in New Hill, NC, is a professional equestrian with a mechanical engineering
degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a well-known international competitor, trainer,
judge, coach and author. Doug has extensive competition experience through the CCI**** level of Eventing,
Grand Prix Show Jumping and Intermediare Dressage. He has consistently produced some of the top horses in
the country, as well as prepared countless lower level horses for successful careers. Doug was first named to
the USEF High Performance list in 2011. He holds both USEF Judges and TD’s licenses for Eventing, and is a
USEA certified Level III Instructor. In 2009, Doug designed and produced “The Rider’s Eye”, an instructional
DVD, along with Jim Wofford. In addition, he is the author of the now popular text, “The Problem Horse Repair
Manual”. Horses have long been an integral part of Doug’s family. His mother, Marilyn Payne, is an USEF “S”
Dressage judge and FEI Eventing judge. Most notably, she was a judge at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong
Kong and the president of the ground jury for the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY. His sister,
Holly Payne, and wife, Jessica (Hampf) Payne, also ride at the upper levels. Doug believes that every talented
horse deserves the opportunity to reach their potential. He is known for his educational YouTube videos and
helmet-cams as well. More information on Doug can be found at: www.dpequestrian.com/bio.
