WEEKEND SUGGESTIONS
Week 17
HI EVERYBODY!
This week we are presenting Grünerløkka with its many cafés and places
to go for a snack, coffee or just to be social or enjoy the nice weather.
Why not go on a field trip this weekend and try out one (or more)
of the places we have recommended for you in this week´s Weekend
Suggestions?
Grünerløkka
Grünerløkka is famous for its many cafés. The area’s young and creative
population dictates the selection: Hip yet relaxed, a bit out of the ordinary
and usually family friendly. The borough is also home to an authentic
diner, Nighthawk, and offers good alternatives for Spanish and Italian
food.

THEATRE & SHOW
Photo: operaen.no
La Traviata, Den Norske Opera & Ballett, until May 25
Guideppe Verdi’s opera La Traviata, about the freedom-seeking Violetta Valéry, is loved
by people across the globe. La Traviata put mid-19th century society in the spotlight,
with all its diseases and its problems, and dressed it up in music. Gentle strings, sounding
almost as if they are the tuberculosis sufferers gasping for air, are set against the party
music and Violetta’s triumphant aria, «Sempre libera!» – always free.
This production of La Traviata is directed by Tatjana Gürbaca, named «director of the
year» by Opernwelt magazine in 2013. She highlights, in particular, one of the opera’s
central questions: to what extent are we free to determine what kind of life we lead.
