Reviews
Pianist Victor Goldberg has technique to burn…
He clearly didn’t feel any muffling of dynamics was
needed in Scriabin’s Piano Sonata no. 5, which played
beautifully into his emotionally frank style. Saving
the best for last, Goldberg turned in a performance of
Brahms’s Handel Variations that mined the piece for
the widest range of expressive color. Crisp in its neobaroque variations and broodingly romantic in others,
this was a young composer’s music infused with all
the youthful energy and feeling it demanded.
Joe Banno, The Washington Post
Washington, DC, United States
Victor Goldberg has been compared to the legendary
Horowitz... He was incomparable; amazing in a
class by himself. Goldberg demonstrated unsurpassable breadth, power and fire. The sweep and force of
the chords were tremendous; the rippling runs were
produced by incredibly dexterous, nimble fingers. In
the Scriabin sonata the diversity and range of the dynamics, the tonal richness, left an enormous impression. Incomparable technical prowess was spellbinding; artistry was of the most sensitive.

Victor Goldberg is an excellent pianist with a formidable technique, a powerful tone, and a romantic soul… [his] intensely expressive performance had
a powerful emotional impact. Domenico Scarlatti’s
famous E major Sonata [was] played with filigree delicacy, crystal-clear runs and elegant leaps... Mr. Goldberg has a wide range of nuances and colors, which
he used with great skill and imagination. The program’s highlight was Brahms’ Variations on a Theme
by Handel, one of the most daunting masterpieces
of the repertoire. Goldberg met its instrumental and
musical challenges with masterful technical and tonal
command. Combining careful planning with spontaneity, austerity with romantic passion… it was a most
impressive performance.

[Goldberg’s] playing cannot help but elicit the strongest images of the young Rubinstein and Horowitz. Gusts of passion were interspersed with moments
of dream-like spirituality, and the music dissolved into
the web of wondrous harmonies.

Victor Goldberg’s performance last night in the completely filled Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall was
a tour de force... Meditating musically is Victor
Goldberg’s specialty—meditating not on changing the
world or persuading others of his point of view, but
meditating toward deeply apprehending the reality
that’s already here and allowing us to apprehend it,
too… This is the gift that Goldberg gives us.

Occasionally, and very occasionally in a lifetime, a person experiences one of those peak experiences… a moment of total ecstasy and fulfillment so rare and precious.
That is what happened when Victor Goldberg struck his
first powerful and dynamic chords… Victor, a pianist of
the highest caliber, is a master of the keyboard, one of
those rare yet exciting and addictive performers whose
playing engulfs his audience from the very start and then
proceeds to take them on a journey unique in the musical world. This young man in his early thirties has a ma-

Goldberg has frequently incorporated oral presentations between perfor¬mances to share his emotional connection to and apprecia¬tion of the music
with the audience. He also gave recitals organized
by the Israeli Embassy in Yangon and Mandalay,
Myanmar (formerly Burma). These were the first
high-pro¬file classical music performances since the
coup d’état in 1962. He performed charity concerts,
including at a Buddhist orphanage which allowed
him to share a connection with 6,000 children who
had never had an opportunity to hear or experience
a live performance of classical music.
Heavily in demand as an adjudicator at competitions and as a music educator, Mr. Goldberg has
presented master-classes in major conservatories
