This serves as an application for candidate membership in the International Federation of Liberal
Youth.
Botswana Movement for Democracy Youth League is a semi-autonomous structure of Botswana
Movement for Democracy, a party which was formed in 2010 as a splinter party of the ruling
Botswana Democratic Party with broad intention of protection of human rights which are eroding in
the country and liberating the country from the economic challenges that are facing the country.
The party currently have representation of 4 members of parliament out of 57 in the National
Assembly, it also have 55 councillors across the country and its currently ruling Gaborone City with
its member Haskins Nkaigwa being the City Mayor. As of October 2013 the party had at least
registered 200 000 active members in its data base out of 1.2 million eligible voters and 75% of this
figure is young people who believe our message resonates well with them.
Botswana Movement for Democracy Youth League plays a pivotal role in the party. It held its
inaugural biennial congress in 2012 where upon all constituencies across the country were
represented. The structure of the League National Executive Committee consists of 21 members
with 30% of them being young women and this is a constitutional obligation.
The objectives of the League are;
- entrenched on advocating for the voice of young people in all structures of government
-creation of employment by offering better job creation policies which can create jobs for young
people of Botswana
-Protection of sexual minorities in the country
-Creating better education system-Education for production
-creating a platform of vibrant civil society organisations.
