City of Katowice has very convenient transport connections. You can take a flight
to Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport (KTW), which is situated about 34 km (21 miles) from
the city downtown. There are bars and duty-free shops at the airport as well as carrenting companies. The airlines that operate the majority of flights to Katowice are
Polish Airlines (Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT) and Lufthansa. Apart from them, many
other airlines offer their flights from and to Katowice, including cheap airlines.
For those who will not manage to get a straight connection to Katowice, there is a
possibility to fly to Krakow-Balice, the John Paul II Airport (KRK) situated one hour
drive(about 70 KM) from Katowice. Duty-free shops, bars and exchange offices are
available there as well. Other international airports in Poland are located in Warsaw,
Gdansk, Poznan, Rzeszów, Szczecin, and Wroclaw.
Traveling by train
It is worth using rail as a mean of transportation as it is relatively fast, environment
friendly, and what is the most important, students under 26 and with a valid student ID
are eligible for 37% discount. Polish State Railways (PKP) offers a variety of
connections not only in the area of Poland. Taking high standard trains such as: ICInterCity, EC-EuroCity, EN-EuroNight or regular ones you can find yourself in one of
the European cities like Berlin, Cologne, Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Amsterdam,
Paris,M Madrit, Rome or Vienna within a few hours.

From there you can get to the downtown by bus (the nearest bus stop is located in front
of the dormitory) that leaves every 10 minutes. You can also get a monthly pass, which
is relatively cheap and enables you to travel within the area of Katowice using all
available bus lines. There are mini-buses going to the city center as well, which are
faster and less crowded than regular buses.Cab is the most comfortable and at the same
time the fastest mean of transportation. The prices vary on the distance and on the

needs. In practice, you will need at least 1200-2500 PLN(350$ – 650$) per month in
order to cover the cost of decent accommodation, pay for the local transport, and even
go out occasionally. This amount should cover the costs of rent, food, clothing, personal
