Trip - Tourism Authority of Thailand

Trip of
lifetime
There’s one thing you’ll never need to worry
about in Thailand: finding wonderful and
fascinating new places to visit. Even if you’re
current job description reads “Traveling
Thailand,” and you’ve been doing it for
years, you’ll eventually come to realize that
going everywhere, and seeing everything,
in this amazingly diverse Kingdom is simply
impossible.
At some point, however, you realize: I’m not
ticking places off my list anymore! I am simply
traveling from place to place, learning more
and more, and enjoying it more each passing
day. You are no longer a tourist. After your
long journey, you now feel comfortable in
Thailand, and appreciate the full character
and charm of the Kingdom.

The majority of Nong Khai locals eat
out at the dozens of restaurants and
bars along the Rimkong (the riverside
road) at the east end of town. Food
here is cheaper and often better than
in the town centre. There are also
many Thai food vendors along Prajak
road that sell very good cheap food.
Both of the above areas are aimed
principally at evening customers, so
many eateries don’t open until after
dark. However, there are a number of
Thai (and European) establishments in
and around Tha Sadet market which

1. Benefits
Once you look beyond the big cities,
however, the cost of most everything
drops significantly, especially for
housing. One need not go far outside
the major urban areas to take
advantage of this price difference,
however. Many people choose to live
near, but not in, one of Thailand’s
larger cities, thereby enjoying the
peace of tranquility of natural
surroundings, but with access to
everything the city has to offer.

Retirement
Holiday in Thailand
The Kingdom of Thailand is a placid and picturesque destination which is
perfect for retirement aged people seeking to find peace of mind in a tranquil
and healthy tropical environment. The pleasant climate and friendly disposition
of the local people make Thailand particularly attractive to older people. Every
year, people from far and wide, from all walks of life, choose to make Thailand
their retirement home.

• Cost of Living
Although the cost of living varies
greatly throughout Thailand, overall it
is very reasonable indeed. The larger
cities are more expensive to live in,
especially Bangkok, but what is
available there makes it worthwhile to
many. The same is true to a lesser
extent in Pattaya, Phuket, and Chiang
Mai, which makes these cities very
popular retirement destinations.

2. Medical Care
Thailand is world famous for its
medical care, as shown by the arrival
of 1.4 million international patients in
recent years. These patients normally
mention the following as reasons for
choosing Thailand.
Thailand’s medical professionals are
highly trained and qualified, with more

medical equipment.

Thailand is a complete no-brainer.
3. Choice of Property
Your choice of property in Thailand
will be dictated by a number of
considerations. If you are an urbanite
and wish to stay in Bangkok then
the best option is to invest in a
condominium and the country’s capital
has developments which can cater to
absolutely any budget.
Most retirees prefer to be a little
closer to the sea and Phuket and
Pattaya are particularly popular. Both
these places have a healthy selection
of villas which are perfect for retired
people as they tend to offer easy

4. Retirement Visa
In order to qualify for a retirement
visa in Thailand you need to be at
least 50 years of age and be able to
demonstrate that you have at least
800,000 Baht in a bank account.
The first step is to apply for a nonimmigrant retirement visa which you
can do back home. You need to make
sure that your passport is valid for at
least a year, that you can prove you
meet the financial criteria and that
your passport is issued by the actual
country you are applying from.
Once you are in Thailand you need to
convert this to a one year retirement
visa. First you will need to set up a
Thai bank account and get a medical
certificate from a Thai hospital but you
have 90 days to get everything done
so there is no rush and your one year
retirement visa will be valid for a year
from the day you receive it.
