The Appointment of:
Dr. Yasser Shaib
It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Dr. Yasser Shaib as Associate Professor
of Clinical Medicine, subspecialty Gastroenterology, in the Department of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Yasser Shaib received his M.D. degree from the American University of Beirut in 1995 and
completed his Internal Medicine residency training at New York Medical College in 1999. He then
completed his specialty fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of New Mexico in 2001 and
spent another year in Advanced Endoscopic Training. He also earned a Master’s degree in Public
Health from the University of New Mexico in 2003. He is American Board-certified in Internal
Medicine and Gastroenterology.
In 2003, Dr. Shaib was recruited as Assistant Professor of Medicine to Baylor College of Medicine and
in 2010 was promoted to Associate Professor. Before moving to AUB, he was Chief of
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Administration Medical Center in
Houston, Texas and Director of Endoscopic Ultrasound at Baylor College of Medicine. He has been
actively involved in teaching and was the Associate Program Director of the Gastroenterology
Fellowship Program and the Director of Advanced Endoscopy Training Program at Baylor.
Dr Shaib is widely published in the medical literature. His research interests include gastrointestinal
oncology, interventional endoscopy and pancreatic diseases. He is an active member of multiple
professional committees and is fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Selected among ‘Best Doctors’ in the USA, Dr. Shaib specializes in advanced endoscopic
interventions including biliary endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopic management of
gastrointestinal neoplasia.
Dr. Shaib will be involved in teaching, research and clinical activities of the Department of Internal
Medicine, and will be actively engaged in all the academic and clinical services of the Division of
Gastroenterology and Hepatology including being Director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship
Training Program.
