This program is going to be held during July and August 2015. Interested Iranian and international students with different backgrounds and variable resume participate in the program so that they can enjoy a new approach to learning of public health. This year with both distance learning and on campus courses, we hope that participants experience a unique and exciting program. In Iran you will experience different cultures and religions, with a hospitality you have never seen before. Iran is a country in southwest Asia, country of mountains and deserts. Eastern Iran is dominated by a high plateau, with large salt flats and vast sand deserts. The plateau is surrounded by even higher mountains. Tehran is the capital, the country's largest city and the political, cultural, commercial and industrial center of the nation. Iran is a regional power, and holds an important position in international energy security and world economy as a result of its large reserves of oil and natural gas. The majority of the population speaks the Persian language, which is also the official language of the country, as well as other Iranian languages or dialects. Turkish languages and dialects, most importantly Azeri language, are spoken in different areas in Iran. Additionally, Arabic is spoken in the southwest parts of the country. Iran's climate ranges from arid or semiarid, to subtropical along the Caspian coast and the northern forests. It is so fresh as if it has come to life on this very day; and yet it is so original and deep rooted as if it has always been there. Isfahan's rich culture and beautiful nature are in such a wonderful harmony that they seem to be each other's reflection. Isfahan may be a complete manifestation of the IranianIslamic civilization, culture and arts that are as old as Iran herself. Major academic institutes like Isfahan University of Technology, Isfahan University, the University of Medical Sciences, Pardis University of Arts, and several campuses of Payam Nur and Islamic Azad University in various cities of the province have given a special cultural and academic importance to Isfahan. Isfahan may also be well named the city of Iranian handicrafts and traditional arts. MUI Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (MUI) is a university of higher education in basic medical sciences, clinical medical sciences and health services in Iran. Isfahan University of Medical Sciences is one of the most prestigious Iranian medical schools and admission to the University is limited to the top students who pass the national entrance examination administered yearly. The university is located in southern Isfahan; Hezarjarib Street. Isfahan University of Medical Sciences provides both undergraduate and graduate programs in 32 main departments. The student body consists of about 12000 students from all the 30 Provinces of Iran and some foreign countries. The university was established in 1946 under the name "The Higher Institute of Health" and later was elevated to the "School of Medicine". CECS Medical Education Development Center of Isfahan University of medical sciences has carried out several projects for establishment and advancement of the Clinical Skills Learning Center. Since 2009, using the latest architectural and technological upgrades, this center is second to none in country regarding the promotional activities that it holds in the field of medical education, thus calling it the Center of Excellence on Teaching and Learning Clinical Skills (CECS). This center has two main halls that can hold gatherings of up to 120 and 60 people at a time. 13 separate rooms and 17 compartmented cubicles make it the favorable site for teamwork and group activities. 80 different settings for experimental models of training, hospital and outpatient care instruments, provides an excellent environment for promotion of medical education, including clinical skills, interdisciplinary skills, communicative skills, continuous medical education of graduated physicians and staff of medical establishments, self-education programs and etc. Program Overview The 3rd IRAN International Public Health Summer School (IPHS2015) is a month long course that aims for promotion of public health through introducing its key concepts to the minds of eager participants, using engaging and exciting themes and models. The educational program includes: A 3-week long Distance Learning Course and 7 days of On Campus Course. Theme of Event The 3rd IRAN International Public Health Summer School is an educational course that simulates individual and group activities of a public health specialist. The storyline follows a science-fiction plot in 2200, which takes place after the annihilation of earth in another galaxy. During the distance learning program, participants get to know about public health science through the reality based fictional theories that led to earth’s demise in the 21st century. During the on campus course, participants are given the chance to put their skills from the previous part into action in order to elevate the health status in other planets, trying to solve public health challenges they face in those planets. All educational materials in IPHS2015 are based on this simulated concept and try to create a competing environment between the teams to reinforce the educational objectives. Main Topics 5 main areas of public health education will be addressed in IPHS2015: 1. An Introduction to Public Health, 2. Social Determinants of Health, 3. epidemiology and biostatistics, 4. Environmental Health, 5. Health Policy and Management. Also 3 interdisciplinary subjects are added to the mentioned areas, including advocacy, leadership and team building. With a complete renewal of the educational curriculum, IPHS2015 will follow its goals using an integrated coherent fictional storyline. During the distance learning phase there is an emphasis on enhancement of knowledge while the on campus course is more about skills and reenactments. Distance Learning Course IPHS2015 Distance Learning Course takes place from July 1st – 22th, 2015. In this course basics of public health will be delivered so that participants get acquainted with routines that are introduced in MPH programs. Each participant at Distance Learning Course should be able to spend 5 to 6 hours each week to watch the educational videos, read the text materials, take part in discussions, complete the exercises and fill out tests and quizzes. On Campus Course IPHS2015 On Campus Course will be held from August 1st – 7th, 2015, in the Center of Excellence on Teaching and Learning Clinical Skills, that is located in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. Group activities, gamification, active learning through problem solving methods and other engaging workshops and discussions will be put to use in this part of the program to put further emphasis on the Distance Learning Course training materials and help the participants to figure out the applicable examples of public health practice. Fifty hours of individual and teamwork activities will hopefully be the high point of the program that ensures the long lasting friendships made in the IPHS community. The On Campus Course participants need to successfully pass the Distance Learning Course. Social Programs During the IPHS2015 On Campus Course, we have prepared two half-aday sightseeing tours around the city of Isfahan. Historical sites and amusement centers are chosen and the expenses are covered by the hosts. Also we have arranged for the participants to be able to have access to a variety of tourism and cultural attractions of Isfahan. We hope you’ll enjoy your time in Isfahan as well as you should. POST-IPHS Social Tour Post-IPHS2015 tour will be conducted on August 8th and 9th in the historical village of Abyaneh, located 180 km outside of Isfahan. We have arranged for the participants to stay at The Viuna three-star hotel. The official activities include a tour of the historical village, sightseeing at the nearby gardens and observation of beautiful desert night sky. Traveling to Isfahan Isfahan is a city in central Iran. The city is 430 km south of Tehran (capital of Iran) at the foothills of the Zagros mountain range. You can get to Isfahan by plane to Isfahan International Airport or Isfahan Shahid Beheshti Airport (IATA: IFN) (ICAO: OIFM) which handles domestic flights to many of Iranian cities and also some international flights. There are daily flights to Iran largest cities like Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz and some others. There are also international connecting flights to many cities in the world. International travelers can also take a flight to Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) which is the major international airport of Iran, located 30 kilometers southwest of central Tehran. You can take a taxi directly from Imam Khomeini International Airport to Isfahan or Take a flight, bus or train from Tehran to Isfahan. Traveling to Isfahan is also available in these ways: By Train: Isfahan is connected to three major rail lines: Isfahan-Tehran, IsfahanShiraz, Isfahan-Yazd and via this recent one to Bandar Abbas and Zahedan. There are daily TehranIsfahan trains which will approximately take 7 hours to get to destination. Traveling by car: Isfahan is well-served by highways. There are automobile routes to capital Tehran, Kashan, Shiraz, Yazd, and Ahvaz. Tehran-QomKashan-Isfahan freeway is a 6 line highway which takes about 6 hours to reach Isfahan by car. Traveling by bus: Isfahan is well connected to most parts of the country by bus. There are buses from Isfahan to Tehran and Tehran to Isfahan every hour by luxury buses with a so-called “European standard” (very comfortable seats, open mini-bar, etc.). “Royal Safar Iranian” is one of them, and don’t forget to buy the VIP ticket (~$7) to get the full package. Accommodation Venue “Center of Excellence on Teaching and Learning Clinical Skills” is one of the greatest centers for teaching and learning clinical skills in Iran. This center has 2 large halls with capacity for 120 and 60 people which is used for gatherings and lectures. All these places are flexible and changeable as needed which makes it an ideal place to run IPHS2015 and its educational programs. This place is located near Al-Zahra hospital in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, away from the bustle of downtown, which makes it easy for participants to access. The hotel itself has a calming tone with pieces of traditional aspects of Iranian architecture; green surroundings provide the rooms with a beautiful view. There is a variety of Iranian food is available in a traditional environment as you enter the restaurant. For welfare and comfort of our participants, transportation from hotel to venue will be provided. Visa All international participants should apply for a VISA through Iran embassies in their home countries. Accepted applicants will have to apply for a 10-day tourism VISA after they have received needed information from our registration team. Registration data will be sent for the Iran’s ministry of foreign affairs in order to facilitate the process; in case any participant faces any problems, the issue will be followed up by the Iranian ministry of foreign affairs. Although the program does not require any preliminary courses and all educational contents are basic, yet having basic knowledge about health systems is preferable for the participants. The registration process is the same for both the distance learning course only and the complete distance and on campus course.
