Maxi Rider
ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT
Grows with your child
The Maxi Rider AHR grows with your child. It easily converts from a
forward facing car seat with in-built harness to a booster seat.
This is made possible through an in-built harness system that stores
away in a hidden compartment when the Maxi Rider AHR is used as a
Booster seat.
(Active Head Restraint)
The Active Head Restraint (AHR), is a unique adjustable headrest,
developed to be adjusted as your child grows providing optimal
head protection all of the time.
The deep side wings are EPS foam lined and have been designed
to contain and protect your child’s head in a side impact crash.

The SLIDEGUARD™ Clip
positions the lap-belt of the
vehicle correctly over the
hips and thighs. It prevents a
child’s hips from sliding
forward during trips or
submarining in a crash.
Other so called
Anti-Submarining designs do
not ensure the lap-belt is
correctly positioned at all
times.
The current Australian
Standards tests use rigid
dummies which don’t slump,
slouch or cry.
Real life isn’t exactly like
this; many children wriggle
or slump causing the seat
belt to sit on their abdomen
rather than across their hips
and thighs. Once the seat
belt is on the abdomen your
child is in risk of serious
injury in a crash.

SLIDEGUARD™ Clip
Is a life saving device that
prevents your child from
sliding under the lap-belt
(submarining) during impact,
thus minimising the risk of
abdominal injury.
ALWAYS USE THIS DEVICE
What is Submarining?
When a child’s pelvis slides under
the lap-belt in a car crash this is
known as submarining and means
that the seat belt could crush the
abdominal organs. If the seat belt
sits on the abdomen in a crash,
your child is at risk of serious
internal injuries or death.

suitability.

What are Child Harnesses?
A Child Harness is a device that restrains your child’s upper body and
provides added protection in the event of a crash.
Children are harnessed in two different ways under the Australian Standards AS/NZS1754.
In-built Harnesses
Separate Child Harness
A permanent part of the seat that
is designed to transfer crash forces
over the stronger parts of the body
(hips and shoulders).
Can be used in conjunction
with your Maxi Rider AHR.
Children should stay in a Child Restraint with
an In-built Harness for as long as they fit. The
National Road Rules require as a minimum all
children under 4 years old to be in a seat with
an In-built Harness.
The Maxi Rider AHR enables the use of an
In-built Harness until your child reaches the
Middle Shoulder Height Marker.
Once they have passed the Middle Shoulder
Height Marker we recommend the use of a
separate Child Harness.
13
Why use a Child Harness?
NEED
Children typically don’t sit correctly
and tend to slump and wriggle. They
also fall out of the seat belt or place
the belt under their arm or behind
their back. In these dangerous
situations the child has no upper torso
support, leaving them at risk of injury
or death in a crash.
SOLUTION
A Child Harness, used in conjunction
with the lap seat belt, maximises
upper torso support. It can also
prevent a child from falling out of the
sash belt whilst they are sleeping,
slumping or wriggling. Without torso
support your child is at risk of being
flung forward in a crash which can
cause serious head, abdominal and
spinal injuries.
AT WHAT AGE SHOULD MY CHILD USE A CHILD HARNESS?
National Road Rules allow the use of Child Harnesses with a Booster Seat
from 4 to 7 years of age or until they no longer fit. Once your child has
outgrown their booster seat, they can use a Child Harness directly on the
vehicle seat with a seat belt.
