Maxi Rider AHR includes... ALWAYS USE THIS DEVICE The SLIDEGUARD™ Clip positions the lap-belt of the vehicle correctly over the hips and thighs. It prevents a child’s hips from sliding forward during trips or submarining in a crash. Other so called Anti-Submarining designs do not ensure the lap-belt is correctly positioned at all times. The current Australian Standards tests use rigid dummies which don’t slump, slouch or cry. Real life isn’t exactly like this; many children wriggle or slump causing the seat belt to sit on their abdomen rather than across their hips and thighs. Once the seat belt is on the abdomen your child is in risk of serious injury in a crash. 6 SLIDEGUARD™ Clip Is a life saving device that prevents your child from sliding under the lap-belt (submarining) during impact, thus minimising the risk of abdominal injury. ALWAYS USE THIS DEVICE What is Submarining? When a child’s pelvis slides under the lap-belt in a car crash this is known as submarining and means that the seat belt could crush the abdominal organs. If the seat belt sits on the abdomen in a crash, your child is at risk of serious internal injuries or death. Unique Feature: Protecta PLUS Harness Compatible A Child Harness, used in conjunction with a lap seat belt, maximises upper torso suppor t. The Maxi Rider AHR is fitted with Shoulder Height Markers to ensure you know when your child is the correct size for the seat. Your child’s weight is no longer relevant in determining use, Shoulder Height Markers indicate suitability. Highest Height Marker to 6 - 8 years of age (approx.) Middle Height Marker from 4 years of age (approx.) Lowest Height Marker from 6 months of age (approx.) Refer to your instruction manual for full details. 12 What are Child Harnesses? A Child Harness is a device that restrains your child’s upper body and provides added protection in the event of a crash. Children are harnessed in two different ways under the Australian Standards AS/NZS1754. In-built Harnesses Separate Child Harness A permanent part of the seat that is designed to transfer crash forces over the stronger parts of the body (hips and shoulders). Can be used in conjunction with your Maxi Rider AHR. Children should stay in a Child Restraint with an In-built Harness for as long as they fit. The National Road Rules require as a minimum all children under 4 years old to be in a seat with an In-built Harness. The Maxi Rider AHR enables the use of an In-built Harness until your child reaches the Middle Shoulder Height Marker. Once they have passed the Middle Shoulder Height Marker we recommend the use of a separate Child Harness. 13 Why use a Child Harness? NEED Children typically don’t sit correctly and tend to slump and wriggle. They also fall out of the seat belt or place the belt under their arm or behind their back. In these dangerous situations the child has no upper torso support, leaving them at risk of injury or death in a crash. SOLUTION A Child Harness, used in conjunction with the lap seat belt, maximises upper torso support. It can also prevent a child from falling out of the sash belt whilst they are sleeping, slumping or wriggling. Without torso support your child is at risk of being flung forward in a crash which can cause serious head, abdominal and spinal injuries. AT WHAT AGE SHOULD MY CHILD USE A CHILD HARNESS? National Road Rules allow the use of Child Harnesses with a Booster Seat from 4 to 7 years of age or until they no longer fit. Once your child has outgrown their booster seat, they can use a Child Harness directly on the vehicle seat with a seat belt. 14 Which child harness do I need for the Maxi Rider AHR? The Safe-n-Sound Maxi Rider AHR is compatible with the Protecta PLUS Child Harness. The Maxi Rider AHR feature a Versa Tether attachment, to enable the connection. Code: 0121 Protecta PLUS Harness The Protecta PLUS Harness features a frontal adjuster that allows a parent to thread the harness through the slots of the Maxi Rider AHR. This provides a more secure fit on your child’s shoulders. Includes frontal harness adjuster for quick and easy adjustment Catch Reduces injury risk associated with lap-only seatbelts Prevents the child misusing the sash on the seatbelt Restrains child’s upper body and provides added protection in the event of a crash Without torso support, your child is at risk of being flung forward in a crash, which can cause some serious head and spinal injuries. Protecta PLUS TM Child Harness From 4 years of age (approx.), a Child Harness can be used in conjunction with a Booster or Convertible Booster Seat with lap or lap-sash seat belts. Once your child has outgrown their Booster or Convertible Booster Seat (approx. 7 years of age), a Child Harness can be used directly on the vehicle seat. Use with a lap only seat belt until approximately 10 years of age. Before purchase, check that your Booster Seat is compatible with this Series 220/2010 Child Harness.
