Fáilte Romhat Aris Chuig Scoil Samhraidh The Irish Fest Summer School features classes that showcase the rich culture, history and traditions of Ireland and Irish America, past and present. Come learn to play Irish fiddle, flute, whistle, guitar, Celtic music styles and more from master musicians. Or take a discussion class and learn about Irish history, Irish language, and culture. Our art and craft classes offer hands-on learning for everyone. This year, our Children’s Program returns, featuring classes and samplers for kids ages 7-12 to explore Celtic crafts, dance, music, and drama. Classes are held Monday evening through Friday morning at our NEW LOCATION at the Milwaukee Irish Fest Center and nearby locations in Wauwatosa (see details inside). Fees per class range from $25 to $50 (samplers, children’s classes, music workshops) to $110 or $150 (adult classes, depending on level). Special full week rates apply for Celtic Kids Camp, with a discount for three or more children enrolled and paid together. Tom Sweeney returns to teach a class on Thomas Moore (17791852), lyricist and songwriter best known for his iconic “The Minstrel Boy.” DANCE Dancers will delight in two levels of Sean-Nós Dance offered by acclaimed teacher Siobhán Butler. And we’ve invited traveling dance master Gerard Butler to offer morning and evening classes in Set Dancing. LANGUAGE Enjoy Beginning Irish Language with Bairbre Ní Chiardha, Intermediate Irish Language with Liam Ó Cuinneagain, and the Irish Language “Sult” — an enjoyable bilingual workshop with Ray MacMánais. Also, in mid-August the Center for Celtic Studies at UW-Milwaukee is hosting a conference for instructors, activists and others involved in the teaching, learning and promotion of Irish Language in North America. SAMPLERS Rounding out our offerings are Friday Morning Adult Samplers for beginners and dabblers, plus a special Family Sampler on Friday morning geared for kids and adults together. See the schedule for sampler classes and times. MUSIC CLASSes - General INFORMATION Please note, several levels of instrument are taught. Beginner: someone who has never played the instrument or has only taken a few beginner level courses; Intermediate: someone who plays confidently and is ready for ornamentation and techniques; and Advanced: someone who has reached at least the amateur performer level. Children: Children 11 years and older with some proficiency on an instrument may enroll in an adult class with the permission of the instructor. (You are responsible for your children; no adult supervision between classes.) Instruments: Students must supply their own instruments.
