ISA Youth Leadership Encounter
?Together Everyone Achieves More?
SEK Levante, based in Valencia (Spain) is proud to announce we will be
hosting this year?s Youth Leadership Encounter. As it is well known, ISA has
been the pioneer and advocate of these encounters. All member schools
that have participated share rewarding memories. These encounters lead
to the creation of knowledge, tolerance, understanding, and last but not
least, long lasting friendships among all participants. The possibility to
unite students from different countries and cultures is a positive and
enriching experience that students and educators will cherish forever. The
theme for this year?s Youth Leadership Encounter is ?Together Everyone
Achieves More?. The belief in working as a team is a concept that we all
use in our daily lives and that helps us become better students, athletes,
workers and just better people. Being a good team player is taught at
home, at school, and even more in sports. For this reason ISA has decided
to use Team Sports as the core of this encounter. Since sports is an
important and essential part of every culture, all our participants will have
the opportunity to present a project on a regional sport of their country
and on how it influences and affects their society.
Project Guidelines
Participating groups of students will be required to prepare a project on a
regional sport in their own country, before traveling to Valencia. Once
here, they will have the opportunity to make their presentations before all
the other groups. The case studies should focus on lesser-known sports
that are typical of the country or region of each participating group. All
case studies will be presented as a part of the YLE on June 26.
The same date of June 26 will feature talks and workshops for both
students and accompanying teachers given by leaders in the fields of
education and sport, as well as the keynote address by education expert
Richard Gerver.
The Leadership Encounter will require the student groups to participate
actively in these lectures, debates and workshops. It will also include field
trips to culturally relevant places in and around Valencia, visits to places
associated to the world of sports and the practice of sports by students.
Regarding accommodation, students will stay at Torre de Alborache, a
youth hostel near Valencia in the midst of nature.
Important Information
International flights arriving to Spain normally fly into the Madrid or
Barcelona airports. There is also a possibility of flying into Valencia or
Alicante. From all these, there are frequent plane/ train connections with
the city of Valencia. Please book early to arrive on June 21, 2015.
Airport/ Train Station shuttle: Please send us precise flight and arrival
information so we can provide transport to your destination.
Visa information: Be advised to check with your airline or travel agent for
information regarding your visa requirements. Our school is ready to
help with letters of invitation when needed.
Health and safety: Spain is generally a very safe country. All students
will be chaperoned by at least two teachers in every activity, who will be
responsible for the organization of these and the well-being of students.
If students need to bring any medication, it should be clearly labeled and
in its original packaging. Bringing a signed and dated letter from your
doctor or physician stating your medical condition and medication that
you will need to take is also suggested. It is also important that these
medications include their generic names.
Medical insurance: Although the Social Security system in Spain is one of
the best in the world, we recommend all participants to travel with
medical insurance from their home country.
ISA/ SEK disclaimer: Neither ISA nor the Levante International School
(SEK), its director or agents are responsible or liable for the safety and
property of participants or their companions during the Encounter in
Valencia, nor any excursions related thereto. Participants are advised to
secure insurance coverage which includes reimbursement of any cost
incurred should the event be canceled.
Fees: YLE registration is 495?. This amount covers room and board and
all field trips. It is important to remember that it does not include travel,
insurances or student pocket money. The cost of the program without
accommodation is 395?.

About Spain and Valencia For centuries, many cultures have settled and
lived in the Iberian Peninsula. The location of Valencia on the
Mediterranean coast makes it a perfect place for cultural exchange. The city
permits the visitor to discover the heritage of the many civilizations and
societies that occupied it in the past: a Roman forum, temples, thermal
baths, ancient streets and Gothic buildings such as the Cathedral, the Lonja
de la Seda, the Towers, palaces and magnificent convents and churches.
What is more, the city is fast becoming an icon of modernity in the 21st
century.
