• The government’s Five-Year Plan (2011- 2015) focuses on
intensifying tourism promotion programs and plans that include
the construction of billion-dollar hotel properties, tourist resorts,
hospitality schools, and developing the country’s infrastructure.
• A robust pipeline of residential and tourism projects as well as
hotels and resorts worth US$10 billion are underway.
• The government sees 3,650 new hotel rooms in the 4 and
5-star categories in the next five to 10 years.
• The restaurants and coffee shop segments are attracting a
wider market, with the entry of more international food companies.
• Hypermarkets are a growing segment, owing to the opening of
a number of regional and international chains all over the country
and the expansion of local chains to other parts of the country.
• Value and luxury retail are continuously offering opportunities
for investment with the expansion of retail space in Oman’s major
shopping malls, increase in new retailers, and the construction of
new malls with mixed-use development.
• The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has allotted more than
US$1.3 billion for the development of the fisheries sector till 2020,
which includes the building of 31 fishing ports.
• Upcoming processing plants at the Fisheries Industrial Zone
are set to make the site the largest multi-purpose fisheries facility
in the Middle East.
