About Caledonian
Established in 1996 as the first private Engineering College in Oman,
Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) is the leading private higher
education institution providing high quality technological education
for the Sultanate of Oman and the region in general. The University
College has taken several ab initio initiatives towards achieving green
Oman with emphasis on research in renewable energy.
Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering has grown in
stature over the last two decades with more than 40 Faculty members
and around 600 students. The department is committed in providing
quality education and producing competent Engineers to meet the
growing demand for professionals in various disciplines of Electrical
Engineering. The department runs four Engineering programmes:
Computer, Telecommunications, Electronics and Instrumentation, and
Electrical Power. The department encourages and nurtures its students
to take up funded projects.
The department has also a research strategy which is aligned with the
national research goals and builds on the research capacity of its
academic staff. The strategy focuses on acquiring research funding
from various sources, strengthen the research collaboration with local

Preamble

Power Electronics plays a vital role in
realizing renewable energy sources such as
solar and wind. With the advent of
development and availability of high power
solid state devices, the use of present day
Power
Electronic
devices
facilitate
generation of higher power both in standalone and grid connected systems.
The objective of the One-day symposium is
to bring all professionals, field experts,
academicians, researchers and students in
Sultanate of Oman under one roof to
interact and exchange ideas, experiences
and expertise in the specific area of
applications of Power Electronics in
renewable energy and grid connected
systems with emphasis in Oman.
This symposium includes a key note speech
and several invited talks and presentations
covering
Renewable Energy-its future,
trends, strengths, impact and research in
Oman,
state-of-the-art
converters,
distributed generation, grid connected
systems, desalination systems, etc.
The symposium is solely sponsored by
Oman Electricity Transmission Company
(OETC).
