WHAT:
26 International Symposium on Human Identification (ISHI). The symposium will cover
timely issues in forensic DNA analysis including advances in rapid DNA
testing/microfluidics, next generation sequencing (NGS), DNA admissibility, forensic
leadership and more.
WHO:
Confirmed presenters include:

Kirk Bloodsworth: Bloodsworth is the first person to be exonerated from death row
through post-conviction DNA testing. A former marine, Bloodsworth was convicted of
brutally assaulting and killing a young girl based on eyewitness testimony. He spent nine
years in prison—including two years facing execution—before DNA testing performed by
Forensic Science Associates exonerated him. Bloodsworth is this year’s keynote
speaker.

Turi King: A molecular geneticist and lecturer in genetics and archaeology at the
University of Leicester, King is renowned for leading the DNA analysis in the Richard III
Identification project. King will share her experiences on the project, presenting Richard
III: the Resolution of a 500 Year-Old Mystery.

Vanessa Lynch: Lynch is the Executive Director of the DNA Project, a non-profit
organization established to address the crime situation in South Africa through the
expanded use of DNA evidence in conjunction with the country’s National DNA
Database. A former attorney, Lynch founded the organization after her father was
murdered in 2004. Lynch will present on the use of DNA databases to help solve serial
crime cases.
