ITTF OVERVIEW
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) is the international governing body of Table Tennis
and has 220 affiliated member associations; it is equal first out of any International Sports
Federation.
The ITTF holds over 80 events a year, seen live in over 110 countries and currently has over
990,000 social media followers, which makes it one of the most followed sports on the planet.
The ITTF was initiated in Berlin, Germany and became formalized in London in 1926. Table tennis
became an Olympic discipline at the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympic Games and a Paralympic
Discipline in 1960 .
The current ITTF President is Mr Thomas WEIKERT (GER) who was appointed in 2014, following
the incumbent President Mr Adham SHARARA (CAN) becoming the ITTF Chair after 15 years as
ITTF President.
HISTORY OF TABLE TENNIS
Table tennis started as a parlour game in Victorian England; it was after dinner entertainment for
the upper class society.
Gradually, the sport grew from a parlour game to a highly competitive activity. Interest began
to fade around 1904, and it was not until its revival in the early 1920s that competition resumed
on an ever-growing scale.
However, for the game to advance as a serious international sport, standards had to be
developed, hence the formation of the ITTF in 1926, along with the first World Championships.
The first Championships were organized in London 1926, originally planned as a European
Championships. There was one problem; a group of players from India wanted to compete;
hastily just before play began, the name was changed to World Championships but the poster
advertising the event remained as European Championships.
The game of Table Tennis has since gone from strength to strength, first appearing in the Olympic
Games and now is the second most played sport in the world, after football.

BASIC TABLE TENNIS RULES
SCORING
In the World Championships each singles match is best of 7 games; doubles matches are best of
5 games in the qualifications, and best of 7 in the main draw.
The first player to reach 11 points wins the game, however a game must be won by at least a
two-point margin.
The edges of the table are part of the legal table surface, but not the sides.
FLOW OF THE MATCH
Each player serves two points in a row; then the service changes. However, if a score of 10-10 is
reached in any game, then the service is alternate. After each game, the players change ends. In
the final game (7th game), the players change ends when one player reaches five points.
LEGAL SERVICE
The ball must rest on an open hand palm. It must be thrown vertically at least six inches and struck
as the ball falls. The ball must bounce on the server’s side and then the opponent’s side of the
table.
If the serve is legal except that it touches the net, it is called a let serve and the serve is done
again.
EQUIPMENT
The racket must have a red and a black side. The ball must be either orange or white and 40 mm
in diameter. The table is 2.74 meters long, 1.525 m wide, and 0.76 m high.

A player’s racket is tested randomly before each match, and opponents have the right to
look at each other’s rackets.
If a game lasts for more than 10 minutes, the expedite rule comes into action. Serving is
alternate, if the receiver returns the 13th stroke in the rally, the receiver has won the point.
If a player strikes the ball below the wrist of the hand that is holding the racket, the point
is legal.
If a player hits the ball around the net and it still lands legally on the table, the shot is valid.

乒乓球比赛规则
得分
世界锦标赛单打比赛采取每场七局四胜，双打比赛预选赛采取每场五局三胜，双打比赛
正赛采取每场七局四胜。
首先得到11分的运动员赢得该局，但是每局比赛获胜方至少要比对方球员多得2分。
球桌的边缘是合法台面的一部分，但不是侧面。
比赛流程
运动员在一个发球轮次发两个球；紧接着换发球。在双方比赛任何一局达到10-10时，
进行换发球。每局比赛运动员交换方位。决胜局（第7局）。当任何一名运动员先得到5
分时交换方位。
合法发球
发球开始时，球必须保持静止置于张开的不持拍手的手掌上。发球员须用手将球几乎垂
直地向上抛起，并使球在离开不执拍手的手掌之后上升不少于16厘米，当球从抛起的最
高点下降时，发球员方可击球，使球首先触及本方台区，再触及接发球员的台区。
如果发球员合法发球后球触及球网，应该被判重发球，发球员再次发球。
器材
球拍必须一面红色一面黑色。球必须是直径40毫米的橙色或者白色球。球桌长2.74米，
宽1.525米，高0.76米。

There will be 5 individual events – Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s
Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
The first round proper of Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles and Mixed Doubles will have 128
places and the first round proper of Men’s and Women’s Doubles will have 64 places.
Singles events and Mixed Doubles will have 64 seeded players, 32 direct entries and 32
qualifiers. Other doubles events will have 32 seeds, 16 direct entries and 16 qualifiers.
Qualification for singles will initially comprise groups followed by one knockout round.
Qualification for doubles will be by knockout.
All singles matches will be best of 7 games. Doubles matches will be best of 5 games in
qualification matches and best of 7 games in the main draw.
2. DRAWS
2.1
2.2
Singles
2.1.1 Singles groups will comprise 3 players with each group winner proceeds to the
qualification knockout draw or first round proper (if less than 64 groups). The draw
for the groups will use a snake system.
2.1.2 The draw for the first round proper will have 2 stages with the first stage split.
The initial first stage draw will take place on April 24 and draw the players seeded
17 – 32 and 33 - 64 into appropriate positions at random. The final first stage draw
will occur on April 25 (but separately from the initial first stage draw) when seeds 1 – 16
will be drawn. Seeds 9 – 16 will be drawn first, followed by seeds 5 – 8, then seeds
3 – 4 and finally seeds 1 and 2.
2.1.3 The second stage draws of direct entries and qualifiers will be drawn following the
completion of the qualification rounds and be drawn at random into the remaining 64
positions, subject to clause 2.3.
Doubles
2.2.1 The initial draw for the first round proper will take place on April 24 when the
seeded players will be drawn at random into appropriate positions.
2.2.2 The second stage draws of direct entries and qualifiers will be drawn following the
completion of the qualification rounds and be drawn at random into the remaining 32
(men’s and women’s doubles) or 64 (mixed doubles) positions, subject to clause 2.3.
2.3
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION: Players of the same Association shall be separated according to
3.6.3.1, 3.6.3.3, 3.6.3.4 and 3.6.3.5 only in preliminary rounds and groups and in the first
round of the draw but not in further rounds.
2.4
The World Ranking list which will be used for seeding and for the draws shall be the WR to
be published in April 2015 (No.4).

单打的预选由分组循环和1-2轮的淘汰赛组成，双打预选是淘汰赛 (只打前几轮)。
单打比赛均为7局4胜制，双打比赛在预选阶段为5局3胜制，正赛为7局4胜制。

(如果少于64个预选组)。预选组抽签采用蛇形排列的方法。
正赛的抽签分为两次，第一次抽签又分两个时间分别进行。4月24日进行
17—32和33—64种子的抽签，他们随机抽签进入适当的位置，4月25日进行
1—16种子的抽签 (第一次抽签的另外一部分)：9—16先抽，尔后5—8种子，
接着3--4种子，最后1号和2号种子。
第二次抽签是直接进位的和预选出来的选手抽签，他们随机抽入剩下的64个
位置，但要满足下面的2.3条款。

2.2.1 4 月 2 4 日 进 行 正 赛 的 初 始 抽 签 ， 种 子 选 手 随 机 抽 入 适 当 的 位 置 。

The prestigious St. Bride Vase awarded to the Men’s Singles World
Champion, was donated by C. Corti Woodcock, who was member of the
St. Bride Table Tennis Club in London in 1929, in honour of Fred Perry winning
the title at the 1929 World Championships in Budapest.
WOMEN’S SINGLES - GEIST PRIZE
The Geist Prize awarded to the Women’s Singles World Championship was
donated in 1931 by President of the Hungarian Table Tennis Association,
Dr. Gaspar Geist.
MEN’S DOUBLES - IRAN CUP
The Iran Cup awarded to the Men’s Doubles World Champions, was donated
at the 1947 World Championships by the Shah of Iran.
WOMEN’S DOUBLES - W J POPE TROPHY
The W.J.Pope Trophy awarded to the Women’s Doubles World Champions,
was donated in 1948 by W.J. Pope of England, who at the time was the ITTF
Honorary General Secretary.
MIXED DOUBLES - HEYDUSEK CUP
The Heydusek Cup awarded to the Mixed Doubles World Champions was

In Tianjin in 1995 China’s Liu Lin and Wang Tao beat Zoran Primorac (CRO) and Vladimir
Samsonov (BEL) in the Men’s Doubles final; it is the last occasion that a pair comprising players
from different national associations reached a doubles final at a World Championships.
In 1999 in Eindhoven, Zoran Primorac (CRO) and Vladimir Samsonov (BEL) were the
Men’s Doubles bronze medallists; it was the last time that players from different national
associations were allowed to compete in a doubles event; from 2001 in Osaka onwards
only pairs from the same national associations were permitted to form partnerships. At the
QOROS 2015 World Championships once again players from different national associations

2015 WTTC RAINBOW
The specially designed ‘2015 WTTC Rainbow’ table retains the DHS’s classic ‘Rainbow Arch’
design, which represents the connection of the five continents at the world’s biggest table tennis
event, as well as the graceful arcs of the table tennis ball whilst playing.
The polygonal surface of undercarriage makes it different from other rainbow tables, while newly
designed lighting effects which gives the table a unique 3D effect.
Each surface of polygon reflecting beautiful but not harsh light, greatly improving visual effect
without hampering the games, an excellent balance between beauty and practicality.
The gold undercarriage and the purple table top, which were used at the 2013 World Table
Tennis Championships in Paris, has began to create a brand legacy linked with the ITTF World
Championships.

MEDIA GUIDELINES
The media is an essential part of the success of the World Championships, so the ITTF wants to
create the best possible atmosphere for the media to work.
In return, the ITTF asks the media to adhere to the below guidelines to ensure that the players,
spectators, TV viewers and competition management will also have the best event possible.
Photographers

Photographers are only allowed onto the field of play (FoP) with an official bib issued by
the organizing committee.
There will be two different access areas for photographers. The first area is for ‘pool
photographers’ (black bib) this will be restricted to the ITTF, OC, wired agencies and
photographers from the relevant nations playing. The second area is for the rest of the
photographers (green bib). Details about these photography areas can be found on page 56.
A bib can be obtained at the main help desk, by leaving a piece of ID as deposit. This bib
must be returned at the end of each day.
Any photographers / accredited press on the FoP without a bib will be asked to leave
immediately.
Only a limited number of photographers will be allowed on the FoP. This will be determined
by level of importance, then a first come, first served basis. If you are unable to enter the
FoP, the ITTF will provide your agency with the photos that you need. Photographers will be
able to take photos from the tribune.
Only photographers with professional cameras will be given an official bib to enter the FoP.
As photographers are seen by spectators and on television, they are required to dress
presentably whilst on the FoP (collared shirt / blouse, long pants / skirts and covered shoes).
Each day there will be a diagram indicating where photographers are allowed on the FoP.
Photographers found outside this area will be asked to leave the FoP.
Photographers are required to bring their own stool / chairs onto the FoP.
Photographers must not bring anything except their camera and one spare lens onto the FoP.
No laptop and no bags are permitted.
Photographers are not allowed to move during or in between points.
Photographers can only move during time outs and in between games.
Strictly no flash photography is allowed on the FoP.
Photographers are not allowed in the mixed zone.
Photographers are allowed to take photos from the press tribune if they are not disrupting
anyone.
Photographers are only permitted to take still pictures and not videos.
The OC will provide secured, lockable storage for your equipment.

The priority for accredited media’s access to players and officials in the mixed zone will be as
follows:

There will be set areas for each of the above categories, with the higher priority media getting
access to the players first.
Filming Rights for Field or Play and Mixed Zone
Please find below the explanation of the different material that ENG crews & Video Journalists
can or cannot film during the World Championships:
1.
All Crews Have The Right To Film:
1. The official draw and opening ceremony on 25 April 2015: Please note that only rights
holders can broadcast the draw live and on demand. Any non-rights holder can place
a request to broadcast live and on demand but this must be approved by the ITTF in
advance.
2. Press conferences following the Draw and after the main matches.
3. Interviews in the mixed zone.
4. Private interviews in the interview room.
Non-rights holders may NOT film match action on the FoP. If non-TV rights holders would like to
have access to match footages, they must contact ITTF’s media rights holder Total Sports Asia.
Please approach any ITTF Staff who will put you in contact with the representative from Total
Sports Asia present at the venue.
2.
Rights Holders Have The Right To Film:
1. Match action on the FoP, proving they have permission from the HB that they are not
disrupting the world feed.
2. Presentations, training and warm up on the FoP.
3. One-to-one Interviews:

4. Training in the training hall at the specific areas prepared by ITTF. No interviews or talking
to the players and coaches are allowed during the practice sessions, interviews allowed
only the mixed zone.
Any unauthorized filming may result in the revoking of the relevant media accreditation.
Media Centre and Press Tribune
Only accredited media are permitted into the media centre and are not allowed to bring in
guests. As the media centre is a place for work, media must keep the noise to a minimum.
There will be lockers provided for photographers to store their equipment in the media centre.

Television, radio, or written interviews may only take place in the mixed zone (after matches),
and in the interview room during the press conference.
If the accredited media would like to have a one-to-one interview with a player, they must
organize this through the OC press team or the ITTF Promotion Manager, and should not
approach the player themselves outside the mixed zone or press conference room.
The Organizing Committee (OC) Media operations staff will manage all photographers
onsite and be present to assist photographers with queries, photo position placement and
will enforce the guidelines stated herein.
If the accredited media would like additional photographs, quotes, results, stats or general
information, please ask the OC press team or the ITTF Promotion Manager and they will be
more than happy to help.

摄影师权限分为两种。第一种为内场摄影师（黑色马甲），仅限于国际乒联、组
委会、新闻通讯社和来自正在比赛运动员相同国家的媒体。第二种为其他摄影师
（绿色马甲）。不同摄影师的活动区域和权限请参见第56页。
专用马甲可以在媒体欢迎台获取，领取需留下身份证件，并在每天赛事结束时归还。
没有穿戴官方马甲的摄影师／媒体将被请出内场。
能够进入内场的摄影师人数有限。将综合考量媒体的重要程度及先来先到原则决
定媒体人员是否具有进入内场的资格。如果您无法进入内场，国际乒联将向您所
在媒体提供所需照片。摄影师也可以在媒体席拍摄照片。

GENERAL INFORMATION
Accreditation
From 24-25 April 2015, accredited media pick up their media accreditation from the Scholars
Hotel Dushu Lake (official media hotel).
From 26 April – 3 May, accredited media pick up their media accreditation from the media
registration centre, which is located 300 meters from the media entrance of the Suzhou
International Expo Centre (shown on the map on page 48).
Please wear your media accreditation pass at all times, access into the venue is strictly based on
accreditation. There will not be any replacement of media accreditation if it is lost.
Training Hall
Only the written press, host broadcaster and TV rights holders have access to the training hall.
General photographers do not have access. Please refer to page 55 for the media access chart.
Private Interviews
Private interviews with players, coaches or ITTF officials can be arranged by filling in a private
interview form, available at the main help desk.
Money/Currency
The currency of the People’s Republic of China is RMB (Chinese yuan). In April 2015, 100RMB is worth:
100RMB = 16.14 USD
100RMB = 14.78 Euros
Currency exchange is available at Scholars Hotel (Dushu Lake)
Transport (Hotel - Venue - Hotel)
Hourly shuttle service between the Scholars Hotel (Dushu Lake) and the competition venue is
available from 26 April to 3 May.

A transport card (value of 30RMB) will also be given to each accredited media for use on public
transport and taxi service. Top up service for the transport card is available at the media centre
main help desk.
Meals (Venue)
Meal coupons can be purchased at 25RMB each, at the media centre service counter daily from
11am to 1pm and 4.30pm to 7pm. Lunch and dinner is served at Level 1 of Hall 5A.

Time Zone
The time zone in Suzhou during the World Table Tennis Championships will be +8 GMT.
Climate
Suzhou has a four-season, monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate. The average temperature
during WTTC (26 April - 3 May 2015) is about 20°C, while the coldest temperature is about 1112°C, and the hottest is about 28-30°C.
About Suzhou
Suzhou, the cradle of Wu culture, originally built in 514 B.C., boasting a history of more than
2,500 years, which entitles the city one of “24 Cultural and Historic Cities”.
As one of the key cities in the Yangtze Delta, Suzhou is a renowned cultural, historic and tourist city.
Suzhou spreads on a low terrain, with the plain covering 55% of the total area. With a network
of rivers and canals as well as a fertile land, the city is rich in a variety of agricultural products.
As a well-known “ Land of Fish and Rice” as well as a “Silk Capital”, Suzhou enjoys a fame of “
Paradise on Earth”.
In today’s Suzhou, there are 778 cultural relics under municipal-and-upper level protection. Over
60 classical gardens are well preserved and 9 of them are listed in the Catalog of World Cultural
Heritage.
Guided City Tour
There will be a guided city tour held on 26 and 27 April, interested media can register at the
Scholars Hotel (Dushu Lake) registration desk one day in advance, before 6pm.

Media Services
Media Center
On level 3 there is a media center with all the facilities media need to conduct their work. The
media center will provide accredited media with access to working areas, free high-speed internet
access, media tools, tea, coffee and snacks.
Media Tribune
In the main stadium media tribune features a combination of working desk positions and standard
observer seats for the media. Due to the limited space in the media tribune, the main seats will be
reserved for OC, ITTF and wired agencies. The remaining seats will be allocated to one person
per agency on a first come first served basis. There will be power at each tables and free wifi
for the media’s use.
Field Photographer
To go onto the field of play, photographers must first obtain a bib from the welcome desk. A piece
of ID must be given as deposit in order to receive the bib. Photographers are obliged to wear
this bib at all times whilst on the field of play and must follow the accredited media guidelines.
Mixed Zone
After every match, all the players will pass through the mixed zone. This gives the accredited
media the opportunity to interact one on one with the players and the teams. The first part of
the mixed zone is dedicated to TV broadcasters and they have the first priority to speak to the
players. The second part of the mixed zone is for the written press.
Press Conferences
After each gold medal match, there will be a press conference with the champion and runner up.
The press conference is located next to the media centre on level 3.
