INSTALLED TECHNOLOGY GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Install IU Technology package infrastructure. Coordinate locations of projector mount and power/data/junction box with UITS Classroom Technology Services. This document assumes a standard accessible drop ceiling grid. If the ceiling is not accessible, conduit runs must be complete from source to destination. 1) Install a manual or electric screen. Coordinate location with UITS Classroom Technology Services. 2) Install unistrut perpendicular to the screen onto the concrete above the finished ceiling, centered laterally to the middle of the viewable area of the screen (the white portion). See separate Projector Mounting Detail document. Center of unistrut to be at a distance of typically (1.9 x screen width) inches from the front of the viewable area of screen. This calculation depends on the model of projector selected. Install a Chief # CMA115 mounting flange centered on the unistrut, using channel nuts. Install 1 ½” pipe from ceiling flange to 2 inches below finished ceiling. 3) Install a duplex power receptacle at projector location. Include 6’ of flexible conduit from a junction box above finished ceiling to the receptacle. Locate receptacle flush with ceiling tile and within 6 inches of projector mounting pole, preferably in an adjacent ceiling tile. 4) Install 2” x 2” chase nipple with 2 plastic insulating bushings (similar to Halex # 75220B) in ceiling tile within 6” of projector pole. 5) Install an FSR # PWB-250 in-wall junction box at the lectern location, 16” above finished floor on-center. Install a duplex receptacle and a 2-port IU Information Outlet into the box. This duplex receptacle and the projector power receptacle to share a dedicated 20a circuit. Install 2 (two) 1 1/2” conduits from the in-wall box to above the drop ceiling grid. Install a nylon bushing on this conduit above the ceiling. If the in-wall box cover is to be painted, do not paint it with the cover closed, i.e. don’t allow the paint to adhere the cover to the surrounding drywall. 7) Any screen and/or lights controls to be located adjacent to or above the lectern junction box.. If a phone is to be installed, it should be a wall-mount phone located near the lectern junction box at standard wall phone height. Lights Any light fixtures located within 8 feet of any part of the screen should be controlled by a separate switch located near the lectern location. Separate Security Line IU Electronics Dept. can provide infrastructure requirements if a security system is needed. A security system will require a phone line. Loudspeakers In large rooms, blocking may be required for mounting loudspeakers. Slab-on-grade conduit Conduit may be placed in a slab-on-grade, but must never be placed below the slab for any reason. Avoid placing conduit inside a slab-on-grade when possible. Installed Projection Technology Conduit requirements (with accessible ceiling) Coordinate location of all boxes with UITS Classroom Technology Services (1) IP Phone jack at standard wall phone height Note that this drawing represents a room with an accessible drop-ceiling. To IDF 20 AMP Dedicated Circuit for AV equipment and projector If ceiling is inaccessible, conduit will be needed for AV cabling and audio speakers IU Information Outlet with 2 ports FSR # PWB-250 junction box With: (2) 1 1/2” conduits stubbed out above finished ceiling (1) duplex power receptacle (1) IU information outlet Duplex power receptacle (1) gang electrical box . Locate within 8" of proj. mounting pole, preferably in a ceiling adjacent to the one containing the pole.. Single gang Data Jack to be installed on ceiling Projector Program audio speakers are typically connected with plenum cable above the ceiling tiles and no conduit is necessary. Coordinate location with UITS Classroom Technology Services. 16 gauge sheet metal blocking 18” x 18” should be installed directly above and below the program speaker box. This specification should be referenced on the architectural as well as electrical drawing. S P 2 inch grommet or bushing in ceiling tile for AV cabling. These devices to be mounted within 6" of projector mounting pole Two (2) 1 ½” conduits stubbed into accessible ceiling Ideally, there should be no more than 18" distance between the lectern junction box and any lights, screen, or shades controls IU Information Outlet with 2 ports FSR # PWB-250 in-wall junction box for AV cabling, 16" O.C.
